Wikipedia Asian Month update

Hi Satdeep Gill

After nearly three months of preparation, Wikipedia Asian Month will start in a few days. Here are some changes and action items that need to be done in the next few days before the event starts:

• As we discussed on meta, if the article is a list, it will not count. However, on the English Wikipedia, the rules have been changed so that a list that is promoted to a Featured List will be counted. Other Wikipedias that also have Featured Lists (BN, BA, FA, KO, HI, ID, JA, RU, UK, UR and ZH) are invited to consider and add this rule.
• There will be two CentralNotice banners used during the event. Please translate these into your language. It should take a maximum of 3 minutes. One is for Ongoing, another is for ending. It will generate huge impact!

  If you have any question regarding the banner in your language Wikipedia, free feel to leave a message on meta.

• Any Asian topic will be counted. Topics do not have to be about geopgraphy. You can make a clear statement so that participants understand this.
• For smaller communities, it is okay to reduce the standard from 3500 bytes and 300 words. I will suggest no lower than 2500 Bytes and 200 words. Please report this change on meta.
• I will make a short video demo about how to use the judging tool. This should be done no later than November 10. I would recommend organizers not start judging articles before that if you plan to use the judging tool.
• Ask some Wikipedians in your community to assist you if you are the only organizer. Tell them most work has already been done. There is only a little work for being an organizer from this point forward.
• For any questions or thought about Wikipedia Asian Month, you can leave a message here. I'm monitoring this page 12 hours everyday.

I'm very excited that Wikipedia Asian Month has many great articles already in the first ten days. To better help us understand how we are we doing on Wikipedia Asian Month, here are some small tasks:

1. Please update the data of your Wikipedia at m:Wikipedia Asian Month/Data, it does not need to be accurate.
2. A few Wikipedia has join the WAM, you can update it on the local page. Azerbaijani Wikipedia, Bulgarian Wikipedia, Cantonese Wikipedia, French Wikipedia, Latvian Wikipedia, Sindhi Wikipedia, Spanish Wikipedia and Vietnamese Wikipedia.
3. Try to get some media coverage on your local medias. Report the media coverage and find resources at here.

One Week Left!

Hi there!

Thank you for volunteering to organize Wikipedia Asian Month - we are doing something amazing! We are expecting to have 1,000 participants improving over 1,500 articles, possibly making Wikipedia Asian Month the largest long-term edit-a-thon ever. Here are a few tasks that need to be completed at the end of the event, as well as some tips you can take to achieve greater success.
Requirements:

1. Check all submitted articles before 15th December, 2015, and send me a data set that includes: total number of submitted articles, number of qualified articles, total number of participants, and articles selected for DYK. For the few Wikipedias that allow article expansions, please also send me the number of new articles vs. improved articles. Use this page to submit results.
2. List all qualified organizers, up to five on each Wikipedia. Qualified organizers are ones who work actively; those who only have their name on the page or just made a few constructive edits for the event (less than, say, 5-10 edits) will not be counted. Due 20th December, 2015. Use this page to submit organizers.
3. List all qualified editors who can receive a postcard on here at meta. Also, please determine the Wikipedia Asian Ambassador of this year. For some Wikipedias, we are also honoring the second greatest contributor as an ambassador, as long as they have created at least 30 articles. Please talk with me about these potential additional Ambassadors. Due 25th December, 2015. Use this page to submit Ambassadors.
4. Create a local results page. A sample page will be provided soon. Due 30th December, 2015.

Tips and Extras:

1. Place {{WAM talk 2015}} on talk pages of qualified articles to record that it was created as a part of Wikipedia Asian Month. If your Wikipedia does not have an equivalent template, make one! See this talk page example to see the template in action.
2. Translate the message at this page. This message will be sent to all participants on your local Wikipedia to encourage their participation. Let me know when you finish the translation. For some Wikipedias that have fewer editors, you can send it by yourself.
3. If you haven't started to check articles, try to give at least one result to each participant to let them know their contribution are qualified, or why they do not qualify.
4. If you find out that some editors on your local Wikipedia are editing Asian Content but haven't sign up yet, send them a short invitation to ask them join. All edits made in November will be counted regardless of when the editor signed up.

Rules Clarification:

• Since it is hard for organizers to keep the checking process very quickly, and may cause some editors who submit five articles being told one of their article does not qualified after the end November. We will still send postcards to those who submit five articles but one of those does not qualified with a minor problem. Minor problems include:
  1. Needs a few words to reach 300 words.
  2. Has a less-important issue tag.
  3. Needs to count one or two edits in the end of October or beginning of December to be qualified.

We made it! The first edition of Wikipedia Asian Month has successfully ended! While your efforts are still needed since the wrap up stage is another big challenge for us. I understand everyone is busy in December, I will trying to cover everything we need in this message, hopefully can make this easier.
Guideline

1. Check all submitted articles before 15th December, 2015.
   1. When you do so, please make a category that includes all articles of WAM. My approach is using the {{WAM talk 2015}} on the talk page of all articles, and generate a category for talk page.
   2. If you already submitted result on this page, please take a look that I add another column for articles selected for DYK. It could take a while for DYK process, you can fill that column later.
   3. You don't need to provide bytes column since I'm looking for a easy way to not brother us too much.
   4. When you checking articles, if you ever find an article submitted about Bashkortostan, Russia, please list them out. Bashkortostan community would like to send a postcard to whoever create that article.
2. List all qualified organizers, up to five on each Wikipedia. Help decide the future of Wikimania

The Wikimedia Foundation is currently running a consultation on the value and planning process of Wikimania, and is open until 18 January 2016. The goals are to (1) build a shared understanding of the value of Wikimania to help guide conference planning and evaluation, and (2) gather broad community input on what new form(s) Wikimania could take (starting in 2018).

After reviewing the consultation, we'd like to hear your feedback on on this survey.

In addition, feel free to share any personal experiences you have had at at a Wikimedia movement conference, including Wikimania. We plan to compile and share back outcomes from this consultation in February.

1. The survey of address collecting is ready, please consider to translate the survey at this page if you are not sure all qualified participants have capability to finish this English survey.
2. After you translate it, or not, please distribute the survey link with, or without, the page of tranlsation to qualifeid particpants on your Wikipedia. Please make sure the list are also in this page so we can know who is the qualified participants who are organizers. Please update this page once you finish the distribution.

1. We will launch a pre-event, which is new-user exclusive training event, that will help new users get involved in the Wikipedia community and contribute more in the Asian Month.
2. We want to host many onsite Edit-a-thons all over the world this year. If you would like to host one in your city, please take a look and sign up at this page.
3. We will largely improve the tool, that participants can directly report their contribution on the tool, and will be easier for judges to use.
4. We will try to send Ambassador certificate physically this year, as well as awarding second and third participants with a WAM button.
5. We will pre-made all postcards and souvenirs, so we can send them all immediately after the event.

Thanks again for organizing Wikipedia Asian Month. There are only 7 days before it starts. Here are some notices and guidelines for organizing.

Page Set up

• Our Sample page with the new logo is ready to be translated. There are only a few adjust if you had this page for 2015 already.
  • Article Requirement is 4
  • Article criteria is 3k bytes and 300 words. NO 2k bytes for smaller Wikipedia.
  • According to the tool's limit, IP users can not participate. Please encourage them register an account.

Localization

• Please localize this template and used on sign up page. I will update the template once the tool is ready to be used.
• You can also localize this template and use as an invitation letter. en:Template:WAM Welcome
• You may localize this Q&A page, but you can also just put a link towards the meta page. m:Wikipedia Asian Month/QA

Stragety

• You may want to invite some of your Wikipedia friends or active Wikipedians from your home WIKI to help you organize.
• You may want to send some invitation to last year participants, active Wikipedians, and Wikipedians who has a special interest.
• Central Notice will be used but the effect could be limited due to the active Wikimedia Fundraising Campaign. You may use the Site Notice if you don't see the CN is deployed.

Reward

• We will keep sending postcards (new design) this year, and as an organizer you will receive an additional postcard as well.
• We will send the Ambassador a regular paper copy of the certificate through the basic mail.

WAM Organizers Update (Nov.5)

• Here are some recent updates for you, and as always, let me know if you have any idea, thought or question.
  • IMPORTANT: Asian Language Wikipedia will exclude the language speaking country from the Asian Month so we can encourage editors write something about other part of Asia. E.g., Chinese Wikipedia will exclude Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. Indian language Wikipedia will exclude India. If you have problems with that, please let me know.
  • I've posted the tool instruction and newest postcard rules on each Wiki' event page. Make sure you translate it. In short: 4 articles get one card, 15 get another one (Special one), and the Ambassador gets another one.
  • We will still allow two Ambassadors if top and second contributors have more than 30 accepted articles, just like last year. Please send this information to high-quantity participant to encourage them.
  • Please create this talk page template and linked in Wikidata. Judging tool will add this template to submitted articles automatically.
  • The judging tool should work fine. If not, talk to me.
  • You may put this template on your user page if you like it. en:Template:User WAM organizer
  • Optional: Judging Tool Interface may not available in your language. If you feel needed, you can translate the interface at here.
  • Invite some active contributors from your wiki to participate. And please encourage editors who can speak more than one language participate to other WAM edition.

  • Additional souvenirs (e.g. Stickers, bookmarks) will sent to Ambassadors and active organizers.
  • I'm doing some basic statistics at Result page every week, in case you are interested.
• I've already sent noticfication to global top 20 users that WMF will give global top 3 contributors a free Wikimedia T-shirt. Here are the rules:
  • A participant's article count is combined on all language Wikipedias they have contributed to
  • Only Wikipedia Asian Month on Wikipedia projects will count (no WikiQuote, etc.)
  • The global top 3 article count will only be eligible on Wikipedias where the WAM article requirement is at least 3,000 Bytes and 300 words.
  • Please make sure enforce the rules, such as proper references, notability, and length.
  • International organizers will double check the top 3 users' accepted articles, so if your articles are not fulfilling the rules, you might be disqualified. We don't want it happened so please don't let us make such a decision.
  • Rest of Global top 10 users will also get some WAM souvenirs.

WAM Tool Update

Hi WAM organizers, due to unexpected maintenance on wmfLabs, which host our judging tool, the tool is currently down and can not be used in around next 48 hours or less. Hi WAM organizers! It's now half way! Good job! Here are some updates:

• As many of you may notice, that the judging tool has came back to normal.
• I've set up a result page with some numbers in it. It may not accurate, just as a reference at this time.
• WAM should get more media coverage. If you can help (either locally or internationally), please let me know!
• Please considering start judging articles if you have not yet. it's really important to give feedbacks to participants so they can improve articles or get motivated.
• With your help, I may start the first round of address collection before WAM ends for who already have four accepted articles and organizers, as I promised to improve the postcard sending process this year.

Tool problem

If you can not submit articles via judging tool, use this meta page to do so. Please spread this message with local participants.

Here are what will come after the end of WAM

• Make sure you judge all articles before December 5th, and participants who can improve their contribution (not submit) before December 10th.
• Participates still can submit their contribution in November before December 2nd at this page. Please let your local wiki participates know. Once you finish the judging, please update this page after December 5th
• There will be three round of address collection scheduled: December 2nd, December 7th, and December 20th.
• Please report the local Wikipedia Asian Ambassador (who has most accepted articles) on this page, if the 2nd participants has more than 30 accepted articles, you will have two ambassadors.
• I will announce the name of Wikipedians who will able to pick a Wikimedia T-shirt from Wikimedia Store for free after I re-check their contributions.
• There will be a progress page for the postcards.

Some Questions

• It could be a case that local organizer does not agree on an article if shall accept it or not. In this situation, the judging tool will highlight the conflict articles in the "article's list". Please review other's opinion, and resolve the conflict by changing your decision or discuss with other judges.
• In case you wondering how can you use the WAM tool (Fountain) in your own contest, contact the developer Le Loi for more information.

ਸਾਡੀ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਤਿਕਾਰ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ 'ਧਰਤੀ ਮਾਂ' ਆਖਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਇਸ 'ਤੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਬਨਸਪਤੀਆਂ, ਜੀਵ-ਜੰਤੂਆਂ, ਪਸ਼ੂ-ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਹੋਂਦ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਸੂਰਜ ਤੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਦੂਰੀ 'ਤੇ ਹੋਣਾ ਹੈ। ਸਾਡੇ ਸੂਰਜ ਮੰਡਲ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਾਕੀ ਧਰਤੀਆਂ 'ਤੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਅਣਹੋਂਦ ਹੈ, ਭਾਵ ਬਾਕੀ ਗ੍ਰਹਿਆਂ 'ਤੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਜਰਮਨ ਫਿਲਾਸਫਰ ਨੀਤਸ਼ੇ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ-'ਅਸੀਂ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੀ ਚਮੜੀ 'ਤੇ ਪਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੀਵ ਹਾਂ, ਇਹ ਚਮੜੀ ਰੋਗੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਰੋਗ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੈ।' ਭੂ-ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀ ਤੇ ਫਿਲਾਸਫਰ ਜੇ. ਈ. ਲਵਲਾਕ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ 'ਤੇ ਸਹਿਮਤ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਬੇਜਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਧਰਤੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਸੰਪੂਰਨ ਜੀਵਨ ਹੈ। ਮਿੱਟੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਯੂਮੰਡਲ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਗ ਹਨ। ਪਿਛਲੇ 50 ਕੁ ਵਰ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਿੰਨੀ ਤੇਜ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਬਦਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਓਨਾ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਪੰਜ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਬਦਲਿਆ। ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਏਜੰਡਾ ਲਾਗੂ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਬੜੀ ਬੁਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਿਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਮਾਡਲ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਸੁੱਖ-ਸਹੂਲਤਾਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਘੱਟ ਸਨ, ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਔਕੜਾਂ ਸਨ, ਪਰ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਏਨਾ ਪਲੀਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। ਸਾਡਾ ਆਲਾ-ਦੁਆਲਾ ਸਾਫ਼-ਸੁਥਰਾ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਸੀ। ਅਸੀਂ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਬਨਸਪਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਜੰਗਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਫ਼ ਕਰਕੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਪਲਾਟਾਂ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਉਸ ਥਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਕੰਕਰੀਟ ਦੇ ਜੰਗਲ ਉਸਾਰ ਲਏ। ਕੱਚੀਆਂ ਕੰਧਾਂ, ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਰੁੱਖ, ਖੁੱਡਾਂ ਖੋਲ਼ੇ ਹੁਣ ਕਿਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਚੇ। ਸਾਡੇ ਉਹ ਪੰਛੀ ਚਿੜੀਆਂ, ਤੋਤੇ, ਗਟਾਰਾਂ ਜੋ ਅਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਥਾਵਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਆਲ੍ਹਣੇ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ, ਉਹ ਆਲ੍ਹਣੇ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਪਾਉਣ? ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਛੱਪੜਾਂ 'ਚ ਡੱਡੂ, ਮੱਛੀਆਂ, ਬਗਲੇ, ਕੱਛੂਕੁੰਮੇ ਆਦਿ ਆਮ ਦੇਖੇ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਸਨ। ਚਿੜੀਆਂ, ਤੋਤੇ, ਲਾਲੀਆਂ, ਕਾਂ, ਕਬੂਤਰ ਆਦਿ ਘਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੰਧਾਂ, ਖੁੱਡਾਂ, ਖੋਲ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਲ੍ਹਣੇ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾਤਰ ਪੰਛੀ ਉੱਚੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਦਰੱਖਤਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਆਲ੍ਹਣੇ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹਰ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਮਨਮੋਹਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ ਸਿਰਜਿਆ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ। ਆਲ੍ਹਣੇ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਜਾਨਵਰ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਹਨ। ਬਿਜੜੇ ਵਰਗੇ ਕਈ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਪੰਛੀ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਘਰ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਸਾਮਾਨ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਚਿਆ। ਸਾਡੇ ਆਲੇ-ਦੁਆਲੇ ਵਗਦੇ ਦਰਿਆ, ਨਦੀਆਂ-ਨਾਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ। ਹਵਾ ਏਨੀ ਦੂਸ਼ਿਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। ਧਰਤੀ ਹੇਠਲਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਸਾਡੇ ਤੋਂ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਫਾਸਲੇ 'ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਸਾਫ਼ ਸੀ, ਫਿਲਟਰਡ ਪਾਣੀ ਸੀ। ਘਰ ਕੱਚੇ ਸਨ ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੱਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਖਾਣਾ ਜ਼ਹਿਰਾਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਸੀ। ਹਰ ਖਿੱਤੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਥੋੜ੍ਹੇ ਸਨ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਤੇ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ। ਸਾਡੀਆਂ ਘਰੇਲੂ ਲੋੜਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਫਸਲੀ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਸੀ। ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਜੜੀਆਂ-ਬੂਟੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਬਨਸਪਤੀਆਂ ਸਨ। ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਡਾ ਵਾਹ-ਵਾਸਤਾ ਸੀ। ਕੁਝ ਐਸੇ ਪੰਛੀ ਵੀ ਸਨ ਜੋ ਸਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਸਾਡੇ ਘਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਸਾਡਾ ਅੱਜ ਦਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਇਸ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਤਹਿਸ-ਨਹਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਕਬਰ 'ਤੇ ਉਸਾਰਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਹੈ। ਅਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਇਸ ਧਰਤੀ 'ਤੇ ਵੰਨ-ਸੁਵੰਨਤਾ ਬਣੀ ਰਹੇਗੀ, ਉਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਸਾਡੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵੀ ਬਹੁਰੰਗੀ ਬਣੀ ਰਹੇਗੀ। ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਵੰਨ-ਸੁਵੰਨਤਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਸਾਡੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵੀ ਫਿੱਕੇ ਪੈਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਣਗੇ। ਡਾਕਟਰੀ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਖੋਜਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਬਿਮਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੁਸ਼ਵਾਰੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਾਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਜਾਤ ਮਿਲੀ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਸੋਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੜੀ ਤੇਜ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਧਾ ਹੋਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਵਧੀ ਵਸੋਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਲੋੜਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਰਤੀ ਲਈ ਕਾਰਖਾਨੇ, ਫੈਕਟਰੀਆਂ, ਭੱਠਿਆਂ, ਬੱਸਾਂ, ਗੱਡੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਘਰੇਲੂ ਵਾਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਬੜੀ ਤੇਜ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਵਧੀ, ਜਿਸ ਸਦਕਾ ਹਵਾ, ਮਿੱਟੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਬਾਦੀ ਤੇਜ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਣ ਲੱਗੀ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਹਵਾਈ ਜਹਾਜ਼ਾਂ, ਰਾਕਟਾਂ, ਮਿਜ਼ਾਈਲਾਂ, ਖੇਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਚੀ ਰਹਿੰਦ-ਖੂੰਹਦ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜਨ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਏ ਜ਼ਹਿਰੀਲੇ ਧੂੰਏਂ ਨੇ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਲੀਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਦਰਿਆਵਾਂ-ਨਦੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਣੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਵੱਛਤਾ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਦਰਿਆ ਗੰਦੇ ਨਾਲਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਮੁਨਾਫ਼ਿਆਂ, ਖ਼ੁਦਗਰਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਲਚਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੌਰ ਨੇ ਧਰਤੀ 'ਤੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਅਨੁਕੂਲ ਹਾਲਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਹੱਦ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਗ੍ਰੰਥਾਂ, ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਠ ਜੀਵ ਹੈ। ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕੇਵਲ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਰਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਜ਼ਰੀਏ ਤੋਂ ਪਰਖ ਕੇ ਦੇਖੋ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਸਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੇ ਤਬਾਹ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਜਿਹੜਾ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਦੂਜੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਜੋ ਸਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ, ਲਈ ਸਾਜ਼ਗਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ, ਨਿਸਚਿਤ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਸਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਘਾਤਕ ਸਾਬਤ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਅੱਜ ਦਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਸ ਟਾਹਣ 'ਤੇ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵੱਢ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਖ਼ੁਦਕੁਸ਼ੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਾਲਾਤ ਨੇ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੀ ਕੁੱਖ 'ਚੋਂ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਜਾਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਾਂ (ਧਰਤੀ) ਦੇ ਹੀ ਗਲ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ। ਸਾਡੀ ਬਹੁਗਿਣਤੀ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟ ਕੇ ਪੈਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਲਸਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਰਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਪੈ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਜ਼ਰਾ ਖਿਆਲ ਕਰੋ ਜੇਕਰ ਸਾਡੇ ਪਾਸ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰਾ ਪੈਸਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਪਰ ਸਾਡੀਆਂ ਜਿਊਣ ਹਾਲਤਾਂ ਅਤਿ-ਨਿੱਘਰੀਆਂ ਹੋਣ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਪੈਸਾ ਸਾਡੇ ਕਿਸ ਕੰਮ? ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗ਼ੈਰ-ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਵਰਤਾਰਿਆਂ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੀ ਸਾਡੀ ਤੰਦਰੁਸਤੀ ਸਾਡੇ ਤੋਂ ਰੁੱਸ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਬਿਮਾਰੀਆਂ-ਦੁਸ਼ਵਾਰੀਆਂ ਬੜੇ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਰੂਪ ਅਖ਼ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆ ਖੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ। ਕਈ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਵੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਅਣਪਛਾਤੀਆਂ ਬਿਮਾਰੀਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਪਸ਼ੂ-ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਗ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਛੋਟੇ-ਛੋਟੇ ਮਾਸੂਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੈਂਸਰ ਵਰਗੀਆਂ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਬਿਮਾਰੀਆਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਲਪੇਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੈ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਫ਼-ਸੁਥਰਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਧਰਤੀ 'ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਜਿਊਣ ਹਾਲਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨਿਕ ਵਿਗਾੜਾਂ ਲਈ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਨਾਗਰਿਕ ਓਨੇ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਜਿੰਨੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਸਮਿਆਂ 'ਤੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਵਾਗਡੋਰ ਸੰਭਾਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਕੰਮ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਆਮ ਲੋਕ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਕੰਮ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਕਰ ਜਾਂ ਕਰਵਾ ਸਕਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਜਾਣਬੁੱਝ ਕੇ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਖਿਲਵਾੜ ਸਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਵੀ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਵਰਗੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰਾ ਅਨਾਜ ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁੱਟ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਕੀਮਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਆ ਜਾਣ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਾਡੇ ਇਥੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰਾ ਅਨਾਜ ਗੋਦਾਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੜ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਸੀਂ ਹੋਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ। ਕਾਰਨ ਇਹ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਪੈਦਾਵਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਖਪਤ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਕੋਈ ਠੋਸ ਨੀਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਾ ਸਕੇ। ਦੁਨੀਆ ਭਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਏਨਾ ਬਾਰੂਦ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਾਡੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਵੀਹ ਹੋਰ ਧਰਤੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਹੋਂਦ ਨੂੰ ਨੇਸਤੋਨਾਬੂਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਆਖਰ ਕਿਸ ਲਈ? I am writing you to ask for your support for the Sustainability Initiative, which aims at reducing the environmental impact of the Wikimedia movement. Over the past two years, more than 250 Wikipedians from all over the world have come together to push the Wikimedia movement towards greater sustainability.

The Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation has recently passed a resolution stating that the Foundation is committed to seeking ways to reduce the impact of its activities on the environment. Now, we are working with the Wikimedia Foundation staff to have all Wikimedia servers run on renewable energy by 2019.

Page Setup

• Our Sample page is ready to be translated. There are only a few adjustments if you had this page for 2016 already.
  • Article Requirement is 4
  • Article criteria are 3k bytes and 300 words. NO 2k bytes for smaller Wikipedia.
  • According to the tool's limit, IP users can not participate. Please encourage them to register an account.

Localization

• Please localize this template and used on sign up page. I will update the template once the tool is ready to be used.
• You may localize this page, but you can also just put a link towards the meta page. m:Wikipedia Asian Month/QA

Strategy

• You may have to invite some of your Wikipedia friends or active Wikipedians from your home WIKI to help you organize.
• You may have to send some invitation to last year participants, active Wikipedians, and Wikipedians who has a special interest.
• Central Notice will be used. You may use the Site Notice if you don't see the CN is deployed.

Reward

• We will keep sending postcards (new design) this year, and as an organizer, you will receive an additional postcard as well.

You are receiving this message because you have signed up as a organizer or in the list.

Timeline

The event has started and will end in the November 30th 23:59 (UTC). However, we are late for some matter. So we need your help:

• Invite previous participants and your community members to join. We have a template you can use.
• Translate Central Notice for your community (more instruction below) as well as sending a notice in village pump. Go public!
• Become the jury member in a campaign on Fountain which is an amazing tool for you to supervise participants’ articles. If you don’t have the campaign set up, please contact us! And put a link to your community’s campaign page for participants’ navigation.
• Organize a off-site editathon event. A coffee bar, internet and laptops. Though it’s optional. If you want to do that, please contact me.

In the following days, you should answer the questions from your community and supervise the submissions. Hope you have fun!

Prepare Central Notice

Central Notice shows a banner on the top of pages in your wiki project along the event timeframe. We will use this to engage with audience. Steps:

1. Translate, change logo and link to event page. Find your project's Central Notice here. For example, we can change the banner for Chinese Wikipedia here.
2. When you mark the 4 items (translation) as done. I'll enable the central notice in your language for this month.

Here are what will come after the end of WAM

• Make sure you judge all articles before December 12th, and participants who can improve their contribution (not submit) before December 10th.
• Once you finish the judging, please update this page after December 12th
• There will be three round of address collection scheduled: December 15th, December 20th, and December 25th.
• Please report the local Wikipedia Asian Ambassador (who has most accepted articles) on this page, if the 2nd participants have more than 30 accepted articles, you will have two ambassadors.

You were the Organizer for Punjabi Project Tiger, along with Rupika Sharma. We've been trying to connect with all Wikipedians in Bangalore, across languages. A meetup like that, will help us to carry forward the momentum of Project Tiger.

• Here are some recent updates and clarification of rules for you, and as always, let me know if you have any idea, thought or question.
  • Additional souvenirs (e.g. postcard) will be sent to Ambassadors and active organizers.
  • A participant's article count is combined on all language Wikipedias they have contributed to
  • Only Wikipedia Asian Month on Wikipedia or Wikivoyage projects count (no WikiQuote, etc.)
  • The global top 3 article count will only be eligible on Wikipedias where the WAM article requirement is at least 3,000 bytes and 300 words.
  • If your community accepts an extension for articles, you should set up a page and allow participants to submit their contributions there.
  • In case of redirection not allowed submitting in Fountain tool, a workaround is to delete it, copy and submit again. Or a submission page can be used too.
  • Please make sure enforce the rules, such as proper references, notability, and length.
  • International organizers will double check the top 3 users' accepted articles, so if your articles are not fulfilling the rules, they might be disqualified. We don't want it happened so please don't let us make such a decision.

• Make sure you judge all articles before December 7th, and participants who can improve their contribution (not submit) before December 10th.

• There will be three round of address collection scheduled: December 15th, December 20th, and December 25th.

Wiki Loves Love (WLL) is an International photography competition of Wikimedia Commons to subject love testimonials happening in the month of February 2019.

The primary goal of the competition is to document love testimonials through human cultural diversity such as monuments, ceremonies, snapshot of tender gesture, and miscellaneous objects used as symbol of love; to illustrate articles in the worldwide free encyclopedia Wikipedia, and other Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) projects. February is around the corner and Wiki Loves Love team invites you to organize and promote WLL19 in your country and join hands with us to celebrate love and document it on Wikimedia Commons. The theme of 2019 is Festivals, ceremonies and celebrations of love.

To organize Wiki Loves Love in your region, sign up at WLL Organizers page. You can also simply support and spread love by helping us translate the commons page in your local language which is open for translation.

The contest starts runs from 1-28 February 2019. We are glad to inform you that Project Tiger 2.0/GLOW is going to start very soon. You know about Project Tiger first iteration where we saw exciting and encouraging participation from different Indian Wikimedia communities. To know about Project Tiger 1.0 please see this page

Like project Tiger 1.0, This iteration will have 2 components

• Infrastructure support - Supporting Wikimedians from India with internet support for 6 months and providing Chromebooks. Application is open from 25th August 2019 to 14 September 2019. To know more please visit
• Article writing contest - A 3-month article writing contest will be conducted for Indian Wikimedians communities. Following community feedback, we noted some community members wanted the process of article list generation to be improved. In this iteration, there will be at least two lists of articles

2. Community suggested list. Google generated list will be given to the community members before finalising the final list. On the other hand, the community may create a list by discussing among the community over Village pump, Mailing list and similar discussion channels.

Firstly, to give you context, Small wiki toolkits (SWT) is an initiative to support small wiki communities, to learn and share technical and semi-technical skills to support, maintain, and grow. We are happy to inform you that the SWT group has planned a series of four online workshops for Indic Wikimedia community members during June & July 2020. These workshops have been specifically designed and curated for Indic communities, based on a survey conducted early this year. The four workshops planned in this regard are;

• Understanding the technical challenges of Indic language wikis (by Birgit): Brainstorming about technical challenges faced by contributors to Indic language Wikimedia projects.
• Writing user scripts & gadgets (by Jayprakash12345): Basics to intermediate-level training on writing user scripts (Javascript and jQuery fundamentals are prerequisites).
• Using project management & bug reporting tool Phabricator (by Andre): Introduction to Phabricator, a tool used for project management and software bug reporting.
• Writing Wikidata queries (by Mahir256): Introduction to the Wikidata Query Service, from writing simple queries to constructing complex visualizations of structured data.

Here are the basic guidance and regulations for organizers. Please remember to:

[Small wiki toolkits] Workshop on Workshop on "Designing responsive main pages" - 30 April (Friday)

As part of the Small wiki toolkits (South Asia) initiative, we would like to inform you about the third workshop of this year on “Designing responsive main pages”. During this workshop, we will learn to design the main page of a wiki to be responsive. This will allow the pages to be mobile-friendly, by adjusting the width and the height according to various screen sizes. Participants are expected to have a good understanding of Wikitext/markup and optionally basic CSS.

Details of the workshop are as follows:

• Date: 30 April 2021 (Friday)
• Timing: 18:00 to 19:30 (India / Sri Lanka), 18:15 to 19:45 (Nepal), 18:30 to 20:00 (Bangladesh)

Hi! This is what I see when I want to upload a file at ਖ਼ਾਸ:ਅੱਪਲੋਡ_ਕਰੋ. I do not know if local users see the same view as I do because my settings are English. I think pa.wiki should have a page like en:Wikipedia:File_Upload_Wizard where they get the choise between free files and non-free files.

If they chose free files they are send to Commons to upload the files there. Unless they find the link to to a local upload and land on en:Wikipedia:Upload/Own work. If you look at the code you can see how you can make the upload form create {{Information}}. Try this link for example:

I have no idea if the language looks right here on pa.wiki but you should get the idea.

Oh yes! This is a relatively new feature. I agree there should be an Upload Wizard similar to the one of English Wikipedia. Thanks for the sharing the link to the English Wikipedia landing page. Let me check and see if can replicate that here. You are right, File Upload Wizard doesn't work fully. Do you have any idea about how to enforce people to select at-least one license? Hi! The best is to monitor all new uploads and tag files without a license, a souce, an author etc. Then users should learn soon. And it is important to delete all bad files fast. It is much more likely that files are fixed if the users get a notice fast because once a user is inactive it is too late.

I would perhaps also make a notice on your Village pump about copyright and ask all users to help clean up. You do not have to be a sysop to find and mark bad files. But ofcourse only a sysop can delete files.

Do you have any local users that uses a bot? Then they could mark files and help cleanup. I have been helping on hiwiki and a lot of other wikis but it is much easier for local users because I have to use Google Translate.

Another thing: ਮੀਡੀਆਵਿਕੀ:Sidebar is translated directly. It would be better to use the standard "messages" and translate via TranslateWiki. The 4 menues with xxxx-url should be easy. The 4 menues that are specific for pawiki can't be translated that way. There a /en is need for English, /fr for French etc. But I think at least /en would be good.

As you may already know, the 2021 Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees elections are from 4 August 2021 to 17 August 2021. Members of the Wikimedia community have the opportunity to elect four candidates to a three-year term. After a three-week-long Call for Candidates, there are 20 candidates for the 2021 election.

An event for community members to know and interact with the candidates is being organized. During the event, the candidates will briefly introduce themselves and then answer questions from community members. The event details are as follows:

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

International Mother Language Day 2022 edit-a-thon

Indic Hackathon | 20-22 May 2022 + Scholarships

We are happy to announce that the Indic MediaWiki Developers User Group will be organizing Indic Hackathon 2022, a regional event as part of the main Wikimedia Hackathon taking place in a hybrid mode during 20-22 May. The regional event will be an in-person event taking place in Hyderabad.

As it is with any hackathon, the event’s program will be semi-structured i.e. while we will have some sessions in sync with the main hackathon event, the rest of the time will be upto participants’ interest on what issues they are interested to work on. Cleaning up files

Hi! I wrote to you earlier about files and there is still work to do. I just created ਫਰਮਾ:No license and is adding it to files with no license template. The files will end up in ਸ਼੍ਰੇਣੀ:Non Licensed Images. I hope uploader will notice and help fix the problem.

Some files are unused. Perhaps you could have a look at ਖ਼ਾਸ:ਅਣਵਰਤੀਆਂ_ਫ਼ਾਈਲਾਂ and see if the files are still usable? If they are not they should be deleted (or moved to Commons if they have a free license and good source and author).

Women's Month Datathon on Commons

Image Description Month in India Campaign

A2K has conducted an online activity or campaign which is an ongoing Image Description Month in India description-a-thon, a collaborative effort known as Image Description Month.
