ਧੌਂਸਬਾਜ਼ੀ, ਦੁਰਵਿਹਾਰ, ਡਰਾਉਣਾ ਜਾਂ ਹਮਲਾਵਰ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਹਾਵੀ ਹੋਣ ਲਈ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਰ ਕਰਨਾ, ਧਮਕੀ ਜਾਂ ਜ਼ਬਰ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਰਵੱਈਏ ਨੂੰ ਅਕਸਰ ਦੁਹਰਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਆਦਤਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਧੌਂਸਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਜਾਂ ਭੌਤਿਕ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਦੀ ਅਸੰਤੁਲਨ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਦੀ ਧਾਰਨਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਧੌਂਸਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਨੂੰ ਝਗੜੇ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।[1] ਅਜਿਹੇ ਵਿਵਹਾਰਿਕ ਦਬਾਅ ਪਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਮੌਖਿਕ ਪਰੇਸ਼ਾਨੀ ਜਾਂ ਧਮਕੀ, ਸਰੀਰਕ ਹਮਲੇ ਜਾਂ ਜ਼ਬਰਦਸਤੀ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਅਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਕਾਰਵਾਈਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਟੀਚਿਆਂ ਵੱਲ ਵਾਰ-ਵਾਰ ਨਿਰਦੇਸਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਜਿਹੇ ਵਰਤਾਓ ਲਈ ਕਈ ਵਾਰ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਸ਼੍ਰੇਣੀ, ਨਸਲ, ਧਰਮ, ਲਿੰਗ, ਜਿਨਸੀ ਰੁਝਾਨ, ਦਿੱਖ, ਵਿਹਾਰ, ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ, ਵਿਅਕਤੀਗਤ, ਵੱਕਾਰੀ, ਵੰਸ਼, ਤਾਕਤ, ਆਕਾਰ ਜਾਂ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਦੇ ਤਰਕ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਤਰ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।[2][3][4] ਜੇ ਧੌਂਸਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਸਮੂਹ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਭੀੜ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਤਾਉਣਾ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।[5][6]

ਧੌਂਸਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਈ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਿਭਾਸ਼ਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਬਰਤਾਨੀਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਪਰਿਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ[7] ਜਦਕਿ ਸੰਯੁਕਤ ਰਾਜ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਦੇ ਕਈ ਰਾਜਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ ਖਿਲਾਫ਼ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਹੈ।[8] ਧੌਂਸਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਜਾਂ ਧੱਕੇਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਮੂਲ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਾਰ ਤਰਾਂ ਦਾ  ਦੁਰਵਿਹਾਰ ਹੈ - ਭਾਵਨਾਤਮਕ, ਮੌਖਿਕ, ਸਰੀਰਕ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਚਾਰ[9] ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਖਾਸ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਜ਼ਬਰਦਸਤੀ ਦੇ ਸੂਖਮ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਧਮਕਾਉਣਾ।

ਸਕੂਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਧੱਕੇਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਜਾਂ ਧੌਂਸਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਵਨਾ ਦੂਜੀਆਂ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਜਿਆਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਸਕੂਲ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ, ਉਹ ਸਭ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਧੌਂਸਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਉਚਿਤ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।[11]
