ਜਪਾਨ (ਜਪਾਨੀ: 日本, ਨੀਪੋਨ ਜਾ ਨੀਹੋਨ) ਪੂਰਬੀ ਏਸ਼ੀਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਥਿਤ ਇੱਕ ਟਾਪੂ ਦੇਸ਼ ਹੈ ਜੌ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਤ ਮਾਹਾਂਸਾਗਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਥਿਤ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਚੀਨ, ਕੋਰੀਆ ਅਤੇ ਰੂਸ ਦੇ ਪੂਰਬੀ ਪਾਸੇ ਹੈ। ਜਪਾਨ ਦੇ ਜਪਾਨੀ ਨਾਮ ਨੀਹੋਨ ਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਹੈ ਸੂਰਜ ਦਾ ਸਰੋਤ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਸੂਰਜ ਦਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਪਾਨ 6852 ਟਾਪੂਆਂ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਸਮੂਹ ਹੈ। ਹੋਨਸ਼ੂ, ਹੋਕਾਇਡੋ, ਕਿਉਸ਼ੂ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੀਕੋਕੂ ਇਸਦੇ ਸਭ ਤੋ ਵਡੇ 4 ਟਾਪੂ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਇਸਦੇ ਥਲ ਭਾਗ ਦਾ 97% ਹਿੱਸਾ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਦੀ ਆਬਾਦੀ 12 ਕਰੋੜ 80 ਲੱਖ ਹੈ। ਟੋਕੀਓ ਜਪਾਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਜਧਾਨੀ ਹੈ। ਜਪਾਨ ਜੰਨਸੰਖਿਆ ਦੇ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਨਾਲ਼ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਦਸਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਜੀ.ਡੀ.ਪੀ ਦੇ ਲਿਹਾਜ਼ ਨਾਲ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਹੈ।
