ਤਕਸ਼ਿਲਾ (Taxila) (ਉਰਦੂ: ٹیکسلا) ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਰਾਵਲਪਿੰਡੀ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਕਸਬਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸਦੀ ਖੁਦਾਈ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਚੀਨ ਕਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬੰਧਿਤ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਸਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ। ਪ੍ਰਾਚੀਨ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਗਾਂਧਾਰ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਰਾਜਧਾਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਸੀ। ਇੱਥੋਂ ਦੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਚੀਨਤਮ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ-ਵਿਦਿਆਲਿਆਂਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਅਤੇ ਬੋਧੀ ਦੋਵਾਂ ਲਈ ਮਹੱਤਵ ਦਾ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਸੀ। ਚਾਣਕਿਆ ਇੱਥੇ ਆਚਾਰਿਆ ਸਨ। 405 ਈ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਾਹੀਯਾਨ ਇੱਥੇ ਆਇਆ ਸੀ।

ਤਕਸ਼ਿਲਾ ਮਲਕੀਅਤ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਦੀ ਮਹਤਤਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਦੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਕਈ ਵਾਰ ਰਾਜ ਨਾਲ ਬਦਲਦੀ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਚੀਨ ਸੌਦਾਗਰੀ ਰਾਹ ਦੀ ਵੁੱਕਤ ਘਟ ਗਈ ਤਕਸ਼ਿਲਾ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵੀ ਅਰਥਹੀਣ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਤ ਵਿਚ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਿਊਨ ਫਿਰਤੂ ਕਬੀਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।19 ਵੀੰ ਸਦੀ ਵਿਚ ਇਸਦੇ ਅਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਸਿਧ ਪੁਰਾਤਤਵ ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਰ ਅਲੈਗਜੇਂਡਰ ਘਨਿਗਮ ਨੇ 19 ਵੀੰ ਸਦੀ ਦੇ ਮਧ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਿਰ ਤਲਾਸ਼ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ। 1980 ਵਿੱਚ ਯੂਨੇਸਕੋ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।.[2] 2006 ਵਿੱਚ ਦਾ ਗਾਰਡੀਅਨ ਅਖਬਾਰ ਵਲੋਂ ਤਕਸ਼ਿਲਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਸੈਲਾਨੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਕਰਸ਼ਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਡਾ ਦਰਜਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।[3]

ਕੁਝ ਹਲਕਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਤਕਸ਼ਿਲਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਯੁਨਿਵਰਸਟੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।[4][5][6][7][8]
