ਸ਼ਾਹਜਹਾਂਬਾਦ,[1] ਬੋਲਚਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,[2] ਇਹ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਦੇ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਖੇਤਰ ਹੈ। ਇਸਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਇੱਕ ਕੰਧ ਵਾਲੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਤ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ 1648 ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਹਜਹਾਂਬਾਦ ਨਾਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਜਦੋਂ ਸ਼ਾਹਜਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੁਗਲ ਰਾਜਧਾਨੀ ਆਗਰਾ ਤੋਂ ਤਬਦੀਲ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।[3] ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੀ ਉਸਾਰੀ 1648 ਵਿੱਚ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ, ਅਤੇ ਇਹ 1857 ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸਦੇ ਪਤਨ ਤੱਕ ਮੁਗਲ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਰਾਜਧਾਨੀ ਰਹੀ, ਜਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਸਾਮਰਾਜ (ਜਿਸਦੀ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਰਾਜਧਾਨੀ ਕਲਕੱਤਾ ਸੀ) ਨੇ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਉਪ ਮਹਾਂਦੀਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਕਬਜ਼ਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ। ਨਵੀਂ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਦੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਰਾਜਧਾਨੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਉਦਘਾਟਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਕੀ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਬੋਲਚਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਣ ਲੱਗਾ।[3][4][5]
