ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ 18 ਬਾਇਓਸਫੀਅਰ ਰਿਜ਼ਰਵ ਹਨ।[1] (ਸ਼੍ਰੇਣੀਆਂ ਮੋਟੇ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ IUCN ਸ਼੍ਰੇਣੀ V ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲ ਖਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ) ਇੱਕ ਆਮ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਪਾਰਕ ਜਾਂ ਜਾਨਵਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੈੰਕਚੂਰੀ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਸਥਾਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ, ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਕਸਰ ਇੱਕ ਜਾਂ ਇੱਕ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਪਾਰਕ ਜਾਂ ਰਿਜ਼ਰਵ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਬਫਰ ਜ਼ੋਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੋ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕੁਝ ਆਰਥਿਕ ਵਰਤੋਂ। ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਨਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਖੇਤਰ ਦੇ ਬਨਸਪਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਜੀਵ -ਜੰਤੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਸਗੋਂ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਸਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਢੰਗਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁੱਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ 18 ਜੀਵ-ਮੰਡਲ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਹਨ

ਯੂਨੈਸਕੋ ਮੈਨ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਇਓਸਫੇਅਰ (MAB) ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਸੂਚੀ ਦੇ ਅਧਾਰ 'ਤੇ ਅਠਾਰਾਂ ਬਾਇਓਸਫੀਅਰ ਰਿਜ਼ਰਵ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ 12 ਬਾਇਓਸਫੀਅਰ ਰਿਜ਼ਰਵ ਦੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਨੈੱਟਵਰਕ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਹਨ।[1][2][3]
