ਅੰਨਾ ਮੈਰੀ ਗੁਈਜ਼ਲਰ, ਜੋ ਅਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਜਾਂ ਮੈਡਮ ਅਜ਼ੂਰੀ (1907, ਬੰਗਲੌਰ-1998) ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਰਾਵਲਪਿੰਡੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਭਾਰਤ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਕਲਾਸੀਕਲ ਡਾਂਸਰ ਅਤੇ ਅਦਾਕਾਰਾ ਸੀ।[1][2] ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਈ ਭਾਰਤੀ, ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਬੰਗਾਲੀ ਫ਼ਿਲਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਫ਼ਿਲਮ ਉਦਯੋਗ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਆਈਟਮ ਡਾਂਸ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।[3][4]

ਅਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ 1907 ਵਿੱਚ ਅੰਨਾ ਮੈਰੀ ਗੁਈਜ਼ੇਲਰ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ (ਕੁਝ ਖਾਤਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ 1916 ਵਿੱਚ ਬੰਗਲੌਰ, ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਭਾਰਤ (ਹੁਣ ਕਰਨਾਟਕ, ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ) ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਸੀ।[5] ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਾਂ ਇੱਕ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਨਰਸ ਸੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਇੱਕ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਜਰਮਨ ਡਾਕਟਰ ਸੀ। ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਾਪੇ ਵੱਖ ਹੋ ਗਏ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੈਲੇ ਦੀ ਪਡ਼੍ਹਾਈ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਪਰ ਪੂਰਬੀ ਨਾਚ ਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ।[6] ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਧੀ ਨੂੰ ਰੂਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਸਮੂਹ ਨਾਲ ਬੈਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਪਿਆਨੋ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਅਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਬੰਬਈ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਵਾਨੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਥ੍ਰੀ ਆਰਟਸ ਸਰਕਲ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਬਣ ਗਏ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਅਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕ ਬੇਗਮ ਅਤਿਆ ਫ਼ਿਜ਼ੀ-ਰਹਿਮਾਨ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਅਤਿਆ ਨਾਲ, ਅਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਨੇ ਪੂਰਬੀ ਕਲਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਚ ਦਾ ਅਧਿਐਨ ਕੀਤਾ।[7] ਅਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਅਤਿਆ ਨਾਲ ਚਲੀ ਗਈ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ।[8][9] ਅਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਦੀ ਅਗਸਤ 1998 ਵਿੱਚ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ।[10]

ਅਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਨੇ ਉਪ ਮਹਾਂਦੀਪ ਦੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਨਾਚਾਂ ਦੀ ਖੋਜ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਖ ਵੱਖ ਮਾਸਟਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਅਧਿਐਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਹ ਛੇਤੀ ਹੀ ਬੰਬਈ ਫ਼ਿਲਮ ਉਦਯੋਗ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਬਣ ਗਈ। ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਫ਼ਿਲਮ ਨਾਦਿਰਾ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪਰਦੇਸੀ ਸਾਇਆਂ, ਕਤਲ-ਏ-ਆਮ, ਦ ਬੰਬੇ ਟਾਕੀਜ਼ ਅਤੇ ਨਵਾਂ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਰਗੀਆਂ ਕਈ ਫ਼ਿਲਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ। ਅਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਨੇ 700 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਫ਼ਿਲਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਚਾਂ ਲਈ ਜਾਣੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਸੀ। ਅਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਦੇ ਡਾਂਸ ਲਈ ਫਿਲਮਾਂ ਵੇਚੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਆਈਟਮ ਨੰਬਰ ਡਾਂਸਰ ਬਣ ਗਈ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਡਾਂਸ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਲਈ ਬਕਿੰਘਮ ਪੈਲੇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਸੱਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।[11] ਅਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਨੇ ਮਾਇਆ, ਸੋਨਾਰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਲਗੂ ਬੰਧਨ ਵਰਗੀਆਂ ਬੰਗਾਲੀ ਫ਼ਿਲਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ।[12][13]
