ਮੈਂ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੁੱਝ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਥ ਉੱਪਰ ਹਰ ਇਕ ਸੋਧਕ ਦੇ ਸੁਝਾਅ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਮੁਸਕਿਲਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਚੰਗੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਇਸ ਬਾਤਚੀਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਨੁਕਤਾਚੀਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਗਿਲੇਸਿਕਵੇ ਵੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੱਲ਼ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਢੰਗ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਤੋਂ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਰਾਹੀ ਦੇਖੇ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਡੇ ਸੋਧਕਾਂ ਉੱਪਰ ਪੈ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਸਾਰੀ ਮੁਸਕਲਾਂ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਹਰ ਇਕ ਸੋਧਕ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲ਼ਾਂ ਵੀ ਹਨ ਇਸ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਥ ਉੱਪਰ ਵਿਚਾਰਨਾਂ ਠੀਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਮੂਹ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਦੀ ਜਲਦੀ ਤੋਂ ਜਲਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਕਿਸੇ ਯੋਗ ਸਥਾਨ ਉੱਪਰ ਨਿਰਧਾਰਿਤ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੇ ਰੱਖੀ ਜਾਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਹਰ ਇੱਕ ਸੋਧਕ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਉਣਾ ਲਾਜ਼ਮੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ। ਇਸ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਰ ਇੱਕ ਸੋਧਕ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ਼ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਸਮਾਨ ਆਦਿ ਬਾਰੇ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਨਿਯਮ ਵੀ ਬਣਾਏ ਜਾਣ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਲਿਖਤੀ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਵੇ। ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਕੀ ਜਲਦੀ ਇਸ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਲਈ ਸਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਥਾਨ ਨਿਸਚਿਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਕੀਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਮੈਬਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਇਸ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਹੋਣ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਸੁਝਾਅ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਦਿਉ ਜੀ। ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਸ਼ੁੱਭ ਚਿੰਤਕ --Jaswant.Jass904 (ਗੱਲ-ਬਾਤ) 17:13, 24 ਅਗਸਤ 2016 (UTC)[ਜਵਾਬ]

ਬਿਨਾਂ ਸ਼ੱਕ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਕੀਪੀਡੀਆ ਉੱਪਰ ਲੇਖ ਇਕ ਤੱਸਲੀਬਖਸ਼ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਵਧ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਇਸਲਈ ਹੁਣ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਦਾ ਫਰਜ਼ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਹੁਣ ਲੇਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੁਣਵੱਤਾ ਵੱਲ ਵੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਦਵੇ। ਲੇਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੁਣਵੱਤਾ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਇਕ ਵਾਰ ੲਿਕ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਦਾ ਐਡਿਟਾਥਨ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਹੁਣ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਅੰਗ੍ਰੇਜੀ ਵਿਕੀਪੀਡੀਆ ਦੀ ਤਰਜ਼ ਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਪੈਮਾਨੇ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕਿਸੇ ਲੇਖ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਪੜਾਅ ਨੂੰ ਨੀਅਤ ਕਰਨਗੇ। ਮਸਲਨ ਅੰਗ੍ਰੇਜੀ ਵਿਕੀਪੀਡੀਆ ਵਿਚ ਲੇਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੁਣਵੱਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਟੱਬ, ਗੁੱਡ, ਫੀਚਰ ਜਾਂ ਕਈ ਹੋਰ ਪੈਮਾਨਿਆਂ ਆਦਿ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਕੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਉਹ ਪੈਮਾਨੇ ਲਾਗੂ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ/ਸਮਰਥਨ/ਵਿਰੋਧ/ਟਿੱਪਣੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।--Gaurav Jhammat (ਗੱਲ-ਬਾਤ) 12:26, 15 ਅਕਤੂਬਰ 2016 (UTC)[ਜਵਾਬ]

Select a cell in the column or row that you want to move. Click the arrow at the start of that row or column to open the dropdown menu (shown). Choose either "Move before" or "Move after" to move the column, or "Move above" or "Move below" to move the row.

Since the last newsletter, the VisualEditor Team has mainly worked on a new wikitext editor. They have also released some small features and the new map editing tool. Their workboard is available in Phabricator. You can find links to the list of work finished each week at mw:VisualEditor/Weekly triage meetings. Their current priorities are fixing bugs, releasing the 2017 wikitext editor as a beta feature, and improving language support.

Recent changes[ਸੋਧੋ]

  • You can now set text as small or big.[1]
  • Invisible templates have been shown as a puzzle icon. Now, the name of the invisible template is displayed next to the puzzle icon.[2] A similar feature will display the first part of hidden HTML comments.[3]
  • Categories are displayed at the bottom of each page. If you click on the categories, the dialog for editing categories will open.[4]
  • At many wikis, you can now add maps to pages. Go to the Insert menu and choose the "Maps" item. The Discovery department is adding more features to this area, like geoshapes. You can read more at mediawiki.org.[5]
  • The "Save" button now says "Save page" when you create a page, and "Save changes" when you change an existing page.[6] In the future, the "ਸਫ਼ਾ ਸਾਂਭੋ" button will say "ਸਫ਼ਾ ਸੰਭਾਲੋ". This will affect both the visual and wikitext editing systems. More information is available on Meta.
  • Image galleries now use a visual mode for editing. You can see thumbnails of the images, add new files, remove unwanted images, rearrange the images by dragging and dropping, and add captions for each image. Use the "Options" tab to set the gallery's display mode, image sizes, and add a title for the gallery.[7]

Future changes[ਸੋਧੋ]

The visual editor will be offered to all editors at the remaining 10 "Phase 6" Wikipedias during the next month. The developers want to know whether typing in your language feels natural in the visual editor. Please post your comments and the language(s) that you tested at the feedback thread on mediawiki.org. This will affect several languages, including Thai, Burmese and Aramaic.

The team is working on a modern wikitext editor. The 2017 wikitext editor will look like the visual editor and be able to use the citoid service and other modern tools. This new editing system may become available as a Beta Feature on desktop devices in October 2016. You can read about this project in a general status update on the Wikimedia mailing list.

We are having a problem with attackers taking over wiki accounts with privileged user rights (for example, admins, bureaucrats, oversighters, checkusers). It appears that this may be because of weak or reused passwords.

Community members are working along with members of multiple teams at the Wikimedia Foundation to address this issue.

In the meantime, we ask that everyone takes a look at the passwords they have chosen for their wiki accounts. If you know that you've chosen a weak password, or if you've chosen a password that you are using somewhere else, please change those passwords.

New way to edit wikitext[ਸੋਧੋ]

Summary: There's a new opt-in Beta Feature of a wikitext mode for the visual editor. Please go try it out.


We in the Wikimedia Foundation's Editing department are responsible for making editing better for all our editors, new and experienced alike. We've been slowly improving the visual editor based on feedback, user tests, and feature requests. However, that doesn't work for all our user needs: whether you need to edit a wikitext talk page, create a template, or fix some broken reference syntax, sometimes you need to use wikitext, and many experienced editors prefer it.

Consequently, we've planned a "wikitext mode" for the visual editor for a long time. It provides as much of the visual editor's features as possible, for those times that you need or want wikitext. It has the same user interface as the visual editor, including the same toolbar across the top with the same buttons. It provides access to the citoid service for formatting citations, integrated search options for inserting images, and the ability to add new templates in a simple dialog. Like in the visual editor, if you paste in formatted text copied from another page, then formatting (such as bolding) will automatically be converted into wikitext.

All wikis now have access to this mode as a Beta Feature. When enabled, it replaces your existing wikitext editor everywhere. If you don't like it, you can reverse this at any time by turning off the Beta Feature in your preferences. We don't want to surprise anyone, so it's strictly an opt-in-only Beta Feature. It won't switch on automatically for anyone, even if you have previously checked the box to "ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਬੀਟਾ ਫ਼ੀਚਰ ਚਾਲੂ ਕਰੋ".

The new wikitext edit mode is based on the visual editor, so it requires JavaScript (as does the current wikitext editor). It doesn't work with gadgets that have only been designed for the older one (and vice versa), so some users will miss gadgets they find important. We're happy to work with gadget authors to help them update their code to work with both editors. We're not planning to get rid of the current main wikitext editor on desktop in the foreseeable future. We're also not going to remove the existing ability to edit plain wikitext without JavaScript. Finally, though it should go without saying, if you prefer to continue using the current wikitext editor, then you may so do.

This is an early version, and we'd love to know what you think so we can make it better. Please leave feedback about the new mode on the feedback page. You may write comments in any language. Thank you.

Official Delegate for Wikimedia Conference 2017[ਸੋਧੋ]

The Wikimedia Conference is all about participation. To make the conference a success it will be essential for the invited affiliates to deliberately select their delegates. Participants should come to Berlin to learn and to share, but also to bring the information and learnings back home. We are seeking delegates who will be actively engaged before, during and after the conference and can represent their affiliates. Ideal delegates are those who are

  • involved in the decision making processes of the organization,
  • striving to help shape the future of the movement,
  • or partnerships specialists,
  • or program leaders.

To increase diversity and have more diverse points of view present at the Wikimedia Conference, we advise affiliates to send at least one non-male participant per organization/group.

Participants should be eager to shape movement conversations; people with passion for partnerships with institutions, funders and like-minded organizations as well as people striving to improve their affiliates’ impact. Please don’t overthink it, consider this food for thought while making your choices.

Wikimedia Conference is for individuals involved in Punjabi Wikimedians as an organization. This involves organizing programs, partnering with institutions and other decisions of the organization. (Activity on Punjabi Wikimedia projects is not relevant for this conference. If you believe you have been working extensively on Wikimedia projects, then you should consider applying for Wikimania 2017.)

Individuals who feel they are appropriate for this should nominate themselves. The nomination should consist of proving the fact that how you are involved in one or more aspects of the organization. Preference will be given to female candidates.

@Harvinder Chandigarh: ji, candidates for Wikimedia Conference are chosen by the organization and candidates for Wikimania are chosen by Wikimania committee. Last year, we had tried by doing physical voting among community members during a meetup. This time we are having a discussion in which all the members are welcome to nominate themselves and to give their views about the nominated candidates. ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤਿੰਨ ਕੁ ਸਾਲ ਵਿਕੀਪੀਡੀਆ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਤੱਕ ਸਿਰਫ ਇੰਨਾ ਕੁ ਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਵਿਕੀਪੀਡੀਆ ਉੱਤੇ ਐਡਿਟਿੰਗ ਕਰਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਕੀਪੀਡੀਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਲੈਣਾ ਜਾਂ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਕਰਨੀ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਫਾਊਂਡੇਸ਼ਨ ਸਿਰਫ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਰਗਰਮ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਖਿਆਲ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਐਡੀਟਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਦੱਦ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਖਿਆਲ ਰੱਖਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਜਰੂਰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ| ਜਰੂਰਤ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਇਸਦੇ ਇਹ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ;
  • ਐਡੀਟਰ ਅਪਣੇ ਸ਼ੌਕ ਲਈ ਵਿਕੀਪੀਡੀਆ ਉੱਤੇ ਨਿਸਵਾਰਥ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਨ-ਸਨਮਾਨ ਨਾ ਵੀ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਵੀ ਉਹਨਾ ਦੇ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਕਮੀ ਨਹੀ ਆਉਣ ਲੱਗੀ|
  • ਐਡੀਟਿੰਗ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਫਾਉਂਡੇਸ਼ਨ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀ ਆਰਥਿਕ ਮਦੱਦ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ|
  • ਬਾਹਰੀ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਖਰਚ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਹੀ ਫਾਉਂਡੇਸ਼ਨ ਕੋਲ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਿਰਫ ਅਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਗ੍ਰਾਂਟ ਵਗੈਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਾਂ ਉਸਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਮਦੱਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਸਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਐਡਿਟਿੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਅਤੇ ਐਕਟਿਵ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਾਇਨੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦਾ|
  • ਐਡੀਟਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕੋਈ ਖਾਸ ਖਰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਕੰਮ ਲਈ ਕੋਈ ਵਕਤ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਵਿਹਲੇ ਦਿਮਾਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ ਜਿਸਦਾ ਖਿਆਲ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਫਾਊਂਡੇਸ਼ਨ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਸਗੋਂ ਸਥਾਨਿਕ ਬੋਲੀ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਹੈ|

It gives us great pleasure to inform that the Train-the-Trainer (TTT) 2017 programme organised by CIS-A2K is going to be held from 20-22 February 2017.

What is TTT?
Train the Trainer or TTT is a residential training program. The program attempts to groom leadership skills among the Indian Wikimedia community members. Earlier TTT have been conducted in 2013, 2015 and 2016.

Who should join?

  • Any active Wikimedian contributing to any Indic language Wikimedia project is eligible to apply.
  • An editor must have 500+ edits.
  • Anyone who have already participated in an earlier iteration of TTT, can not apply.

The Wikimedia movement is beginning a movement-wide strategy discussion, a process which will run throughout 2017. For 15 years, Wikimedians have worked together to build the largest free knowledge resource in human history. During this time, we've grown from a small group of editors to a diverse network of editors, developers, affiliates, readers, donors, and partners. Today, we are more than a group of websites. We are a movement rooted in values and a powerful vision: all knowledge for all people. As a movement, we have an opportunity to decide where we go from here.

This movement strategy discussion will focus on the future of our movement: where we want to go together, and what we want to achieve. We hope to design an inclusive process that makes space for everyone: editors, community leaders, affiliates, developers, readers, donors, technology platforms, institutional partners, and people we have yet to reach. There will be multiple ways to participate including on-wiki, in private spaces, and in-person meetings. You are warmly invited to join and make your voice heard.

The immediate goal is to have a strategic direction by Wikimania 2017 to help frame a discussion on how we work together toward that strategic direction.
