ਨੀਰਜ ਚੋਪੜਾ (ਜਨਮ 24 ਦਸੰਬਰ 1997)[5] ਇੱਕ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਟਰੈਕ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ੀਲਡ ਅਥਲੀਟ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਜੈਵਲਿਨ ਥਰੋ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਅੰਜੂ ਬੌਬੀ ਜਾਰਜ ਦੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਜਿਸਨੇ ਅਥਲੈਟਿਕਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਚੈਂਪੀਅਨਸ਼ਿਪ-ਪੱਧਰ ਦਾ ਸੋਨੇ ਦਾ ਤਮਗਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸਨੇ ਇਹ ਬਿਦਗੋਸ਼ਟ, ਪੋਲੈਂਡ ਵਿੱਚ 2016 ਆਈਏਏਐਫ ਵਰਲਡ U20 ਚੈਂਪੀਅਨਸ਼ਿਪਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਜੂਨੀਅਰ ਰਿਕਾਰਡ ਵੀ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।

2016 IAAF ਵਿਸ਼ਵ U20 ਚੈਂਪੀਅਨਸ਼ਿਪ ਵਿੱਚ, ਚੋਪੜਾ ਨੇ 86.48 ਮੀਟਰ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਅੰਡਰ -20 ਰਿਕਾਰਡ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ।[10] ਚੋਪੜਾ ਨੂੰ 2018 ਏਸ਼ਿਆਈ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਦਘਾਟਨੀ ਸਮਾਰੋਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਝੰਡਾਬਰਦਾਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਵੀ ਚੁਣਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ਼ ਉਸਦੀ ਏਸ਼ੀਆਈ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ।[11][12]ਉਸਨੇ 2018 ਏਸ਼ੀਆਈ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੋਨ ਤਮਗ਼ਾ ਜਿੱਤਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਥਰੋਅ (88.06 ਮੀਟਰ) ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ 2018 ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਮੰਡਲ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸੋਨ ਤਮਗ਼ਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ।[13] and 2018 Commonwealth Gamesਚੋਪੜਾ ਨੇ 2020 ਸਮਰ ਓਲੰਪਿਕਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੋਲਡ ਮੈਡਲ 87.58 ਮੀਟਰ ਦੇ ਥ੍ਰੋਅ ਨਾਲ ਜਿੱਤਿਆ। ਉਹ ਓਲੰਪਿਕਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਗਤ ਸੋਨ ਤਮਗ਼ਾ ਜਿੱਤਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਤਰ ਦੋ ਭਾਰਤੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ,[14][15] ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਗਤ ਈਵੈਂਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੋਨ ਤਮਗਾ ਜੇਤੂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਛੋਟੀ ਉਮਰ ਦਾ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਲੇਠੀ ਓਲੰਪਿਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਗੋਲਡ ਜਿੱਤਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਇਕਲੌਤਾ ਖਿਡਾਰੀ ਹੈ।[16]
