ਤਾਨਾਜੀ ਮਾਲੁਸਰੇ ਮਰਾਠਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਸ਼ਿਵਾਜੀ ਦਾ ਸੈਨਿਕ ਸਹਾਇਕ ਸੀ। ਇੱਕ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਕਵੀ ਤੁਲਸੀਦਾਸ,[lower-alpha 1] ਨੇ ਤਾਨਾਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਹਾਦਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੰਹਾਗੜ ਦੀ ਲੜਾਈ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਦਿਆਂ ਇੱਕ ਪੋਵਾਡਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੀ,[1] ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਹ ਮਰਾਠੀ ਲੋਕ ਕਥਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਸ਼ਖਸੀਅਤ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।[2][3][4][lower-alpha 2] ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਮਹਾਦੇਵ ਕੋਲੀ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਸੀ।[6][7][8]

ਹਿੰਦੂਤਵਾ ਵਿਚਾਰਧਾਰਕ ਵੀ.ਡੀ. ਸਾਵਰਕਰ ਨੇ ਉਸ 'ਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਗਾਥਾ ਲਿਖੀ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ 'ਤੇ ਬਸਤੀਵਾਦੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਪਾਬੰਦੀ ਲਗਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸੀ।[9]
ਹਰੀ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਆਪਟੇ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਮਰਾਠੀ ਨਾਵਲ ਗਦ ਅਲਾ ਪਾਨ ਸਿਨਹ ਗੈਲਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਅਧਾਰ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ 1903 ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।[10][11] ਸਿਨਹਾਗੜ, 1933 ਦੀ ਮਰਾਠੀ ਫ਼ਿਲਮ ਬਾਬੂਰਾਓ ਪੇਂਟਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਬਣਾਈ ਗਈ ਸੀ, ਇਹ 1903 ਦੇ ਨਾਵਲ 'ਤੇ ਅਧਾਰਿਤ ਸੀ।[12][13] ਬਾਲੀਵੁੱਡ ਅਭਿਨੇਤਾ-ਨਿਰਮਾਤਾ ਅਜੇ ਦੇਵਗਨ ਨੇ ਤਾਨਾਜੀ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ 'ਤੇ ਆਧਾਰਿਤ ਇੱਕ ਫ਼ਿਲਮ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਰਮਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਿਸ ਫ਼ਿਲਮ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ "ਤਾਨਾਜੀ" ਰੱਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ। ਇਹ ਫ਼ਿਲਮ 10 ਜਨਵਰੀ 2020 ਨੂੰ ਰਿਲੀਜ਼ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ।[14]
