ਮਾਰੀਅਨ ਟੈਲਬੋਟ (31 ਜੁਲਾਈ, 1858 – 20 ਅਕਤੂਬਰ, 1948)[1] ਸ਼ਿਕਾਗੋ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ 1895 ਤੋਂ 1925 ਤੱਕ ਡੀਨ ਮਹਿਲਾ ਵਜੋਂ ਨਿਯੁਕਤ ਰਹੀ ਅਤੇ 20ਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੰਯੁਕਤ ਰਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਲਈ ਉੱਚ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਨੇਤਾ ਰਹੀ। 1882 ਵਿੱਚ, ਜਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਇਹ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣ ਸੀ, ਇਸਨੇ ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਐਸੋਸੀਏਸ਼ਨ ਆਫ਼ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵੁਮੈਨ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਲਾਹਕਾਰ ਐਲਨ ਸਿਨਲੋ ਰਿਚਰਡਜ਼ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਕੀਤੀ। ਸ਼ਿਕਾਗੋ ਦੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੰਬੇ ਕੈਰੀਅਰ ਦੌਰਾਨ, ਟੈੱਲਬੋਟ ਨੇ ਔਰਤ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਫੈਕਲਟੀ ਲਈ ਸਮਰਥਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਲਈ ਅਕਸਰ ਸਫਲਤਾਪੂਰਵਕ ਲੜਾਈ ਲੜੀ,[2] ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਅਕ ਮੌਕਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਲੜੀ।

ਟੈੱਲਬੋਟ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ, ਥੁਨ, ਸਵਿਟਜ਼ਰਲੈਂਡ, ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਦਕਿ ਇਸਦੇ ਮਾਤਾ-ਪਿਤਾ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਲੰਬੀ ਯੂਰਪੀ ਯਾਤਰਾ ਕੀਤੀ, ਪਰ ਇਸਦਾ ਪਾਲਣ-ਪੋਸ਼ਣ, ਬੋਸਟਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਇਆ। ਉਹ ਐਮਿਲੀ ਫੇਅਰਬੈਂਕਜ਼ ਟੈਲਬੋਟ ਅਤੇ ਇਜ਼ਰਾਇਲ ਟੈਲਬੋਟ, ਜੋ ਬੋਸਟਨ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਸਕੂਲ ਆਫ ਮੈਡੀਸਨ ਦੇ ਡੀਨ ਸਨ, ਦੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਏ ਛੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਸੀ।[3] ਇਸਦੀ ਮਾਂ ਇੱਕ ਸਰਗਰਮ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਸੀ; ਕਾਲਜ ਦੀ ਤਿਆਰੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੌਜ਼ੂਦਤਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਘਾਟ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਬੇਟੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਬੋਸਟਨ ਲਾਤੀਨੀ ਅਕੈਡਮੀ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ, ਜੋ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੁੜੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤੀ ਅਕਾਦਮੀ ਸੀ।[1]
ਡੀਨਸ਼ਿਪ[ਸੋਧੋ]
ਟੈੱਲਬੋਟ ਨੂੰ 1899 ਵਿੱਚ ਯੂ ਆਫ਼ ਸੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਹਿਲਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਡੀਨ ਨਿਯੁਕਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸਨੂੰ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਸੌਂਪੀ ਗਈ।[4] ਉਸਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਪੇਸ਼ੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਡੀਨਸ਼ਿਪ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚਾ ਚੁੱਕਣ ਲਈ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ, 1902 ਵਿੱਚ ਡੀਨਸ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਮਿਡਵਾਈਸਟਰੀ ਖੇਤਰੀ ਬੈਠਕ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ।[5] ਸੋਸੀਏਸ਼ਨ ਆਫ਼ ਕਾਲਜੀਏਟ ਅਲੂਮਨੇ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸਹਿ-ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ, ਨੇ 1911 ਵਿੱਚ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਡੀਨਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਿਯਮਤ ਮੀਟਿੰਗਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੇਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਵੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ।
