ਤਬਾਸ਼ੀਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੇ ਤਵਕਸ਼ੀਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਤਵਚਾ ਦਾ ਕਸ਼ੀਰ ਯਾਨੀ (ਦਰਖਤ ਦੀ) ਛਾਲ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਧ ਹੈ।ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕੁੱਝ ਹੋਰ ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮ ਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਗ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਵੰਸ ਸ਼ਰਕਰ (ਯਾਨੀ ਬਾਂਸ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੱਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਵੰਸ ਕਪੂਰ (ਬਾਂਸ ਦਾ ਕਪੂਰ) ਮੇਂਡਾਰਨ ਚੀਨੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਤੀਆਨ ਝੁ ਹੁਆਂਗ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਾਂਸ ਪੀਲਾ (ਯਾਨੀ ਬਾਂਸ ਦਾ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਪੀਲਾ ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਹੈ। ਤਬਾਸ਼ੀਰ ਜਾਂ ਤਵਾਸ਼ੀਰ ਬਾਂਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੁੱਝ ਨਸਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੋੜਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਮਿਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਇੱਕ ਪਾਰਭਾਸੀ (ਅਰਧ ਪਾਰਦਰਸ਼ੀ) ਸਫੇਦ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਮੁੱਖ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਸਿਲਿਕਾ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਤੇ ਘੱਟ ਮਾਤਰਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਖਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਚੂਨੇ ਦਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।[1] ਭਾਰਤੀ ਉਪਮਹਾਦੀਪ ਦੀਆਂ ਆਯੁਰਵੇਦ ਅਤੇ ਯੂਨਾਨੀ ਚਿਕਿਤਸਾ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਲੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਦਵਾਈ - ਸੂਚੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਅਹਿਮ ਸਥਾਨ ਹੈ।[2] ਰਵਾਇਤੀ ਚੀਨੀ ਚਿਕਿਤਸਾ ਦੇ ਕਈ ਨੁਸਖਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਗ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।[3]

ਰਵਾਇਤੀ ਚਿਕਿਤਸਾ ਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਬਾਸ਼ੀਰ ਦੇ ਕਈ ਫਾਇਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਬੁਖਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਨਾ, ਮਾਸਪੇਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਅਕੜਾ ਅਤੇ ਲਕਵੇ ਤੋਂ ਰਾਹਤ ਦਿਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਮ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਤੇਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।[4].

ਹਲਕੇ ਨੀਲਮ ਰੰਗ ਵਾਲਾ ਤਬਾਸ਼ੀਰ (ਆਮ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਨੀਲ ਜਾਂ ਨੀਲਕੰਠ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਸਧਾਰਨ ਪੀਲੇ ਜਾਂ ਸਫੇਦ ਤਬਾਸ਼ੀਰ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਤਮ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।[5]

ਤਬਾਸ਼ੀਰ ਦੀ ਭਾਲ[ਸੋਧੋ]

ਹਰ ਬਾਂਸ ਦੀ ਡੰਡੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਬਾਸ਼ੀਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ਤਬਾਸ਼ੀਰ ਲੱਭਣ ਲਈ ਡੰਡੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਲਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੇ ਕਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਤਬਾਸ਼ੀਰ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋ ਤਾਂ ਅਕਸਰ ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਲੇ ਖੜਕਨ ਦੀ ਅਵਾਜ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਬਾਂਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੀਰਕੇ ਤਬਾਸ਼ੀਰ ਕਢਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ ਤਬਾਸ਼ੀਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਚੀਨ ਆਯੁਰਵੇਦ ਚਿਕਿਤਸਾ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਲੀ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਹੈ, ਕੁੱਝ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਗ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਆਦਿਵਾਸੀ ਸਮੁਦਾਇਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਇਆ। ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਸਾਲ ਤੱਕ ਭਾਰਤ ਤੋਂ ਤਬਾਸ਼ੀਰ ਐਕਸਪੋਰਟ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੱਧ ਕਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਅਕਸਰ ਅਰਬ ਸੌਦਾਗਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਰਾਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ। ਬਾਰ੍ਹਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਪੱਛਮੀ ਤਟ ਦੇ ਕਰੀਬ ਸਥਿਤ ਥਾਣੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਐਕਸਪੋਰਟ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਤਬਾਸ਼ੀਰ ਦੀ ਮੰਡੀ ਲਗਿਆ ਕਰਦੀ ਸੀ।
