ਯੂਨਾਈਟਿਡ ਕਿੰਗਡਮ ਵਿੱਚ, ਪਾਰਲੀਮੈਂਟ ਦਾ ਮੈਂਬਰ (ਐਮਪੀ) ਇੱਕ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਯੂਨਾਈਟਿਡ ਕਿੰਗਡਮ ਦੀ ਸੰਸਦ ਦੇ ਦਿ ਹਾਊਸ ਆਫ਼ ਕਾਮਨਜ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਚੁਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। [1]

ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਪਾਰਲੀਮੈਂਟ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ 650 ਮੈਂਬਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਯੂਨਾਈਟਿਡ ਕਿੰਗਡਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕਲੇ ਮੈਂਬਰੀ ਹਲਕਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਿਲੀ-ਪਾਸਟ-ਦ-ਪੋਸਟ ਵੋਟਿੰਗ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਲੀ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਚੁਣੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਹਲਕੇ ਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਨਿਧ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।[2][3]

ਪੰਜ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਚੱਕਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਲਈ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਐਮਪੀ ਪੋਸਟਾਂ ਇੱਕੋ ਸਮੇਂ ਖਾਲੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਫਿਕਸਡ ਟਰਮ ਪਾਰਲੀਮੈਂਟਸ ਐਕਟ 2011 ਨੇ ਇਹ ਤੈਅ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹਰ ਪੰਜ ਸਾਲ ਬਾਅਦ ਮਈ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਵੀਰਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਮ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਕਰਵਾਈਆਂ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।[4] ਐਕਟ ਨੂੰ 2022 ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਸੰਸਦ ਤੋਂ ਮਨਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ, 2017 ਅਤੇ 2019 ਦੋਵਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਆਮ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਐਕਟ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਨਿਰਧਾਰਤ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕਰਵਾਈਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਸਨ।

ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀਆਂ[ਸੋਧੋ]

ਸੰਸਦ ਦੇ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਫਰਜ਼ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਗ੍ਰੇਟ ਬ੍ਰਿਟੇਨ ਦੇ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਫ਼ਾਦਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਰਸੰਦੇਹ ਨਿਰਣੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਕੰਮ ਕਰੇ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਸਹੀ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ। ਦੂਸਰਾ ਫਰਜ਼ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਲਕੇ ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਨਿਧਤਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨੁਮਾਇੰਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ 'ਤੇ ਬਰਕ ਦੀ ਮਸ਼ਹੂਰ ਘੋਸ਼ਣਾ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਾਣੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਤੀਸਰੇ ਸਥਾਨ 'ਤੇ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਸੰਗਠਨ ਜਾਂ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਉਸਦਾ ਫਰਜ਼ ਰੈਂਕ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਵਫ਼ਾਦਾਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਪਾਲਣ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਲੋਕਤੰਤਰ ਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਸਿਹਤਮੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵੇ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਕਿਸ ਤਰਤੀਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੜੇ ਹਨ।
