ਖ਼ਲਾਅ ਜਾਂ ਸੁੰਨ ਉਹ ਵਿਸਥਾਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ। ਮੋਟੇ ਤੌਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਖ਼ਲਾਅ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਇਲਾਕਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿੱਥੋਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੈਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਬ ਹਵਾਮੰਡਲੀ ਦਾਬ ਨਾਲ਼ੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਘੱਟ ਹੋਵੇ।
