ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਚ ਅਲੋਪ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸ਼ਬਦਾ ਦਾ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਰੂਪ

ਬੰਦੂਕ

ਅਰਬੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੈ 'ਫੁੰਦੁਕ' فُنْدُق‎ (funduq) ਭਾਵ 'ਜੰਗਲੀ ਬਦਾਮ' ਜਾਂ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿਚ 'hazelnut'.

ਇਸਦਾ ਇਕ ਹੋਰ ਅਰਥ ਸੀ ਗੋਲ਼ੀ (Round or Bullet or Cartridge), ਪਹਿਲੇ ਪਹਿਲ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੋਲ਼ੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਆਕਾਰ ਗੋਲ ਸੀ ਜੰਗਲੀ ਬਦਾਮ ਵਰਗਾ; ਇਸੇ ਕਰਕੇ ਰੌਂਦ (round ਤੋਂ ਵਿਗੜ ਕੇ ਬਣਿਆ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਜ ਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਚਲਿਤ ਹੈ, ਹੁਣ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਗੋਲ਼ੀ ਦਾ ਆਕਾਰ ਗੋਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੀ ਰਿਹਾ।

ਹੌਲੀ ਹੌਲੀ ਜਿਸ ਜੰਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਚਲਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਸੀ ਉਸਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਬੰਦੂਕ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ।

ਜਿਸਨੂੰ ਅਜਕਲ ਅਸੀਂ ਬੰਦੂਕ/ਰਾਈਫ਼ਲ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਇਸਦੇ ਲਈ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੈ 'ਤੁਫ਼ੰਗ' (ਫ਼ਾਰਸੀ) ਜੋ ਤੋਰਕੀ 'ਤੁਫ਼ੇਕ' (ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਪਕ ਬਣਿਆ) ਤੋਂ ਅਨੁਨਾਸਿਕਤਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਫ਼ਾਰਸੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਚ ਤਤਸਮ ਆਇਆ।
