ਨੂਰ ਜਹਾਂ (ਉਰਦੂ:نورجہاں) ਮੁਗ਼ਲ ਸ਼ਹਿਨਸ਼ਾਹ ਜਹਾਂਗੀਰ ਦੀ ਮਲਿਕਾ (ਰਾਣੀ) ਸੀ। ਨੂਰ ਜਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਿਰਜ਼ਾ ਗਿਆਸ ਬੇਗ ਦੇ ਘਰ 1576 ਈਸਵੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੰਧਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਇਆ। ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਅਸਮਤ ਬੇਗਮ ਸੀ। ਮਲਿਕਾ ਨੂਰ ਜਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਸਲ ਨਾਂ ਮਹਿਰੁਲਨਿਸਾ ਬੇਗਮ ਸੀ, ਜੋ ਜਹਾਂਗੀਰ ਦੇ ਵਜ਼ੀਰ-ਏ-ਆਜ਼ਮ ਮਿਰਜ਼ਾ ਗਿਆਸ ਬੇਗ ਦੀ ਪੁੱਤਰੀ ਸੀ।[1] ਇਸ ਦੀ ਮਜ਼ਾਰ ਲਾਹੌਰ ਦੇ ਨਵਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਰਿਆ ਰਾਵੀ ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ। ਨੂਰ ਜਹਾਂ ਸੁੰਦਰ, ਸਿਆਣੀ ਅਤੇ ਹੁਸ਼ਿਆਰ ਸਿਆਸਤਦਾਨ ਔਰਤ ਸੀ।

ਜੀਵਨ[ਸੋਧੋ]

ਨੂਰ ਜਹਾਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਬੰਗਾਲ ਦੇ ਜਾਗੀਰਦਾਰ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਅਫ਼ਗ਼ਨ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਹੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਖਾਵੰਦ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਜਹਾਂਗੀਰ ਨੇ ਨੂਰਜਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਰਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਖ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ। ਨੂਰਜਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਹਾਂਗੀਰ ਤੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਔਲਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਪਤੀ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਅਫ਼ਗ਼ਨ ਤੋਂ ਲਾਡਲੀ ਬੇਗਮ ਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੀ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਸ਼ਹਿਜ਼ਾਦੇ ਸ਼ਹਰਯਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਹੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ। ਸ਼ਹਿਜ਼ਾਦੇ ਖੁੱਰਮ ਦਾ ਵਿਆਹ ਨੂਰਜਹਾਂ ਬੇਗਮ ਦੇ ਭਰਾ ਆਸਫ਼ ਖ਼ਾਨ ਦੀ ਧੀ ਅਰਜੁਮੰਦ ਬਾਨੋ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁਮਤਾਜ਼ ਮਹਿਲ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਿਤਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਜਹਾਂਗੀਰ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਨੂਰਜਹਾਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੀ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਗੱਦੀ ’ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਵਾਈ ਛੋਟਾ ਸ਼ਹਿਜ਼ਾਦਾ ਸ਼ਹਰਯਾਰ ਬੈਠੇ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਰਾਜਭਾਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੇ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਵਿਪਰੀਤ, ਨੂਰਜਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਰਾ ਆਸਫ਼ ਖ਼ਾਨ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਗੱਦੀ ’ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਜਵਾਈ ਸ਼ਹਿਜਾਦੇ ਖੁੱਰਮ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਰਾਜਮਾਨ ਵੇਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ। ਆਖ਼ਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਸਫ਼ ਖ਼ਾਨ ਆਪਣੀ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਫ਼ਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਵਾਈ ਤੇ ਜਹਾਂਗੀਰ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਖੁੱਰਮ ‘ਸ਼ਾਹਜਹਾਂ’ ਦੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੁਗ਼ਲ ਸਾਮਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਅਗਲਾ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ। ਆਮ ਰਵਾਇਤ ਮੁਤਾਬਿਕ ਸ਼ਹਰਯਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਸਹਿਯੋਗੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਤਲ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ, ਪਰ ਨੂਰਜਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸਗੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡੀ ਪੈਨਸ਼ਨ ਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ। ਉਹ ਜਹਾਂਗੀਰ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ 18 ਸਾਲ ਬਾਅਦ ਤੱਕ ਜਿਉਂਦੀ ਰਹੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਬਾਕੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਿਧਵਾ ਧੀ ਲਾਡਲੀ ਬੇਗਮ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਹੌਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਬਿਤਾਇਆ।[2]

ਬਾਅਦ ਦੇ ਸਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਤ (1628–1645)[ਸੋਧੋ]

ਨੂਰ ਜਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਬਾਕੀ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਧੀ ਲਾਡਲੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਹੌਰ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਆਰਾਮਦਾਇਕ ਮਹਿਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਿਤਾਈ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਹਜਹਾਂ ਨੇ 2 ਲੱਖ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਨਾ ਰਕਮ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਮਿਆਦ ਦੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਗਰਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੇ ਮਕਬਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਰਾਨੀ ਕੀਤੀ, ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਖੁਦ 1622 ਵਿੱਚ ਅਰੰਭ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਇਤਮਾਦ-ਉਦ-ਦੌਲਾ ਦੀ ਕਬਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਮਕਬਰਾ ਤਾਜ ਮਹਿਲ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਣਾ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਬਿਨਾਂ ਸ਼ੱਕ ਮੁਗਲ ਆਰਕੀਟੈਕਚਰ ਦਾ ਸਿਖਰ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਾਣ 1632 ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਨੂਰ ਜਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਨੂਰ ਜਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ 17 ਦਸੰਬਰ 1645 ਨੂੰ 68 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਈ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਹੌਰ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਾਹਦਰਾ ਬਾਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਬਰ 'ਤੇ ਦਫ਼ਨਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਖੁਦ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਬਰ ਉੱਤੇ "ਇਸ ਗਰੀਬ ਅਜਨਬੀ ਦੀ ਕਬਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਨਾ ਤਾਂ ਦੀਵਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਗੁਲਾਬ ਹੋਵੇ। ਨਾ ਤਾਂ ਤਿਤਲੀ ਦਾ ਖੰਭ ਸਾੜਣ ਦਵੋ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਕੋਇਲ ਨੂੰ ਗਾਉਣ ਦਵੋ।"[3] ਨੂਰ ਜਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਵੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਤੀ, ਜਹਾਂਗੀਰ ਦੀ ਕਬਰ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਬਰ ਨਾਲ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭਰਾ ਆਸਫ਼ ਖਾਨ ਦੀ ਕਬਰ ਵੀ ਨੇੜੇ ਹੀ ਸਥਿਤ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਕਬਰ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ੀ, ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੈਲਾਨੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਕਰਸ਼ਤ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਬਾਗਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਨਮੋਹਕ ਸੈਰ ਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਲੈਣ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।[ਹਵਾਲਾ ਲੋੜੀਂਦਾ]

  • Harold Lamb's historical novel Nur Mahal (1935) is based on the life of Nur Jahan.[5]
  • Nur Jahan's Daughter (2005) written by Tanushree Poddar, provides an insight into the life and journey of Nur Jahan from being a widow to the Empress and after, as seen from the perspective of her daughter.[6]
