ਆਰੇਸ ਯੂਨਾਨੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੜਾਈ ਦਾ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ^[1]। ਇਹ ਬਾਰਾਂ ਓਲੰਪਿਅਨਸ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਿਊਸ ਤੇ ਹੇਰਾ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ^[2]। ਇਸਨੂੰ ਲੜਾਈ ਦੀ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਤੇ ਜੋਸ਼ ਦਾ ਚਿਨ੍ਹ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਯੂਨਾਨੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਲੜਾਈ ਦਾ ਹਿੰਸਕ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਰੁਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪੱਖ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
