ਜੇਮਸ ਮੈਗੀ (1750-1801) ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਚੀਨ ਵਪਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰੀ ਫਰ ਵਪਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਅਮਰੀਕੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਕਾਉਂਟੀ ਡਾਊਨ, ਆਇਰਲੈਂਡ ਵਿੱਚ, ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ਡਾਊਨਪੈਟਰਿਕ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਜੇਮਜ਼ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭਰਾ ਬਰਨਾਰਡ ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਇਨਕਲਾਬੀ ਯੁੱਧ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਸਮਾਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਨਿਊ ਇੰਗਲੈਂਡ ਆਵਾਸ ਕਰ ਗਏ[1] ਜਿਸਨੂੰ "ਮਨੁੱਖੀ, ਨੇਕ-ਦਿਲ ਆਇਰਿਸ਼ਮੈਨ" ਵਜੋਂ ਦਰਸਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸਨੇ ਅਕਤੂਬਰ 1783 ਵਿੱਚ ਥਾਮਸ ਹੈਂਡਾਸਿਡ ਪਰਕਿਨਸ[1] (TH ਪਰਕਿਨਸ) ਦੀ ਭੈਣ ਮਾਰਗਰੇਟ ਇਲੀਅਟ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਹ ਕੀਤਾ।[1] ਮੈਗੀ ਰੌਕਸਬਰੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ, ਜੋ ਅੱਜ ਬੋਸਟਨ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਹੈ, ਆਖ਼ਰਕਾਰ ਸ਼ਰਲੀ-ਯੂਸਟਿਸ ਹਾਊਸ ਵਿੱਚ, ਜਿਸਨੂੰ ਉਸਨੇ 1798 ਵਿੱਚ ਖਰੀਦਿਆ ਸੀ[2][3] ਉਸਦਾ ਭਰਾ, ਬਰਨਾਰਡ ਮੈਗੀ, ਸਮੁੰਦਰੀ ਫਰ ਵਪਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਸਮੁੰਦਰੀ ਕਪਤਾਨ ਵੀ ਸੀ।
