ਟੈਰੀ ਕੈਸਲ
ਟੈਰੀ ਕੈਸਲ (ਜਨਮ 18 ਅਕਤੂਬਰ 1953) ਇੱਕ ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਸਾਹਿਤਕ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਹੈ। ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ ਸੂਜ਼ਨ ਸਾਨਟੈਗ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ "ਅਜੌਕੇ ਸਮੇਂ 'ਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਜਾਹਿਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ, ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਗਿਆਨਵਾਨ ਸਾਹਿਤਕ ਆਲੋਚਕ" ਵਜੋਂ ਵਰਣਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ, ਉਸਨੇ ਅੱਠ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਤ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਐਂਥੋਲੋਜੀ ਦ ਲਿਟਰੇਚਰ ਆਫ਼ ਲੈਸਬੀਅਨਿਜ਼ਮ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸਨੇ ਲੈਂਬਡਾ ਲਿਟਰੇਰੀ ਐਡੀਟਰਜ਼ ਚੁਆਇਸ ਅਵਾਰਡ ਜਿੱਤਿਆ ਸੀ।[1] ਉਹ 18 ਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਡਰਾਵਨੀਆਂ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਯੁੱਧ-ਯੁੱਗ ਤੱਕ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਲਿੰਗੀਵਾਦ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਅਖੌਤੀ "ਫੋਟੋਗ੍ਰਾਫਿਕ ਫਰਿੰਜ" ਤੱਕ ਦੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ 'ਤੇ ਲਿਖਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਮਾਪਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਧੀ, ਕੈਸਲ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਸੈਨ ਡਿਏਗੋ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਬਚਪਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੰਗਲੈਂਡ ਅਤੇ ਦੱਖਣੀ ਕੈਲੀਫੋਰਨੀਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਸੀ। ਉਸਨੇ ਪੁਗੇਟ ਸਾਉਂਡ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ 1975 ਵਿੱਚ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੀ.ਏ. ਨਾਲ ਗ੍ਰੈਜੂਏਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਹ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਪੀ.ਐਚ.ਡੀ. ਹਾਸਿਲ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਮਿਨੀਸੋਟਾ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਗਈ।[2]
ਸੈਨ ਫ੍ਰਾਂਸਿਸਕੋ ਦੇ ਲੰਮੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਸਦੇ, ਕੈਸਲ ਇਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਟੈਨਫੋਰਡ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਲਟਰ ਏ. ਹਾਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਹੈ। ਉਸਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਬਲੈਕੀ ਵਰਮਯੁਲੇ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਵੀ ਸਟੈਨਫੋਰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਹੈ।[3]
ਲਗਭਗ 2000 ਤੋਂ ਅਰੰਭ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ, ਕੈਸਲ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਦਿਅਕ ਕਰੀਅਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੋਰ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਅਤੇ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ 'ਤੇ ਲਿਖਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ, ਇਹ ਲਿਖਦਿਆਂ ਕਿ "ਵੀਹ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਅਕਾਦਮੀ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ, ਮੈਂ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕੀਤਾ- ਇੱਕ ਨਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਵਾਂਗ - ਮੈਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਸਿੱਧਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਲਿਖਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰਾਂ।"[4][5] ਉਸਦੇ ਲੇਖ ਅਕਸਰ ਲੰਡਨ ਰਿਵਿਉ ਆਫ਼ ਬੁੱਕਸ, ਅਟਲਾਂਟਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਊ ਰੀਪਬਲਿਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਛਪਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
