ਰੂਨੀ (Proto-Norse: ᚱᚢᚾᛟ (runo), Old Norse: rún) ਜਾਂ ਰੂਨੀ ਵਰਣਮਾਲਾ ਆਦਿਕਾਲ ਦੇ ਯੂਰਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁੱਝ ਜਰਮੇਨੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਲਈ ਵਰਤੀ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਵਰਣਮਾਲਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਰੂਨ ਨਾਮਕ ਅੱਖਰ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ।[2][3] ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਵੇਂ-ਜਿਵੇਂ ਯੂਰਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਈਸਾਈਕਰਣ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਤੀਨੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਤਾਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਰੋਮਨ ਲਿਪੀ ਅਪਣਾ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਰੂਨੀ ਲਿਪੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਗ ਘੱਟਦਾ ਗਿਆ। ਸਕੈਂਡੀਨੇਵੀਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਰਤੀ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਰੂਨੀ ਲਿਪੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਫ਼ੁਥਾਰਕ (futhark ਜਾਂ fuþark) ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਛੇ ਅੱਖਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੁਨੀਆਂ ਫ (F), ਉ (U), ਥ (Þ) , ਅ (A), ਰ (R) ਅਤੇ ਕ (K) ਸਨ।ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਥ ਦੀ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਬਿਨਾ ਬਿੰਦੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਥ ਵਲੋਂ ਜ਼ਰਾ ਵੱਖ ਹੈ। ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁੱਝ ਧੁਨੀਆਂ ਬਦਲ ਜਾਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਰਣਮਾਲਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਫ਼ੁਥੋਰਕ (futhorc ਜਾਂ fuþorc) ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ।[4]
