ਵਿਜੇ ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤਰਾਜ (ਜਨਮ 14 ਦਸੰਬਰ 1953) ਇੱਕ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਟੈਨਿਸ ਖਿਡਾਰੀ, ਖੇਡ ਟਿੱਪਣੀਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਤੋਂ ਕਦੇ-ਕਦਾਈਂ ਅਭਿਨੇਤਾ ਹੈ।[1][2][3][4][5] ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ 1983 ਵਿੱਚ ਪਦਮ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ, ਭਾਰਤ ਦਾ ਚੌਥਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚ ਨਾਗਰਿਕ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ।[6]

ਅਰੰਭ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ[ਸੋਧੋ]

ਵਿਜੇ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਚੇਨਈ,[7] ਮੈਗੀ ਧੈਰਿਆਮ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਬਰਟ ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ।[8][9] ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਭਰਾ ਹਨ, ਅਨੰਦ ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤਰਾਜ ਅਤੇ ਅਸ਼ੋਕ ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤਰਾਜ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਟੈਨਿਸ ਖਿਡਾਰੀ ਵੀ ਸਨ।[10] ਉਸਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਕੂਲ ਦੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਡੌਨ ਬੋਸਕੋ ਤੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਮਦਰਾਸ ਦੇ ਲੋਯੋਲਾ ਕਾਲਜ ਤੋਂ ਗ੍ਰੈਜੂਏਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤੀ।

ਕਰੀਅਰ[ਸੋਧੋ]

1970 ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਗ੍ਰੈਂਡ ਪ੍ਰਿਕਸ ਇਵੈਂਟ ਖੇਡਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤਰਾਜ ਨੇ 1973 ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿੰਗਲਜ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਸਫਲਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਦੋ ਗ੍ਰੈਂਡ ਸਲੈਮ ਈਵੈਂਟਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁਆਰਟਰ ਫਾਈਨਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ। ਵਿੰਬਲਡਨ ਵਿਖੇ, ਉਹ ਆਖਰੀ ਚੈਂਪੀਅਨ ਜਾਨ ਕੋਡੇਏ ਤੋਂ ਪੰਜ ਸੈੱਟਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਾਰ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਯੂਐਸ ਓਪਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਗਰਮੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ, ਰਾਡ ਲਾਵਰ ਨੂੰ ਦੋ ਗੇੜ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹਰਾਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਕੇਨ ਰੋਸੇਵਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਹਾਰ ਗਿਆ।

ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤਰਾਜ, ਬਿਓਰਨ ਬੋਗ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾ ਦੂਜੇ ਦੌਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਓਪਨ ਦੇ ਕੁਆਰਟਰ ਫਾਈਨਲ 'ਚ ਰੋਸਵਾਲ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਰ ਗਿਆ। 1979 ਵਿਚ, ਉਹ ਵਿੰਬਲਡਨ ਦੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਚੈਂਪੀਅਨ ਬੋਰਗ ਤੋਂ ਦੋ ਸੈੱਟਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਕਰਕੇ ਚੌਥੇ ਸੈੱਟ ਵਿੱਚ 4-1 ਨਾਲ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਉਹ ਜੁਲਾਈ 1980 ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਦੇ 16 ਵੇਂ ਨੰਬਰ ਦੇ ਸਿੰਗਲਜ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਰੀਅਰ ਦੀ ਉੱਚ ਦਰਜੇ 'ਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਗਿਆ। 1981 ਵਿਚ, ਉਹ ਵਿੰਬਲਡਨ ਦੇ ਕੁਆਰਟਰ ਫਾਈਨਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਗਿਆ, ਜਿੰਮੀ ਕੋਨੋਰਸ ਨੂੰ 2-0 ਨਾਲ ਹਰਾਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਪੰਜ ਸੈੱਟਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਾਰ ਗਿਆ। ਉਸਨੇ 1984 ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿਨਸਿਨਾਟੀ ਮਾਸਟਰਜ਼ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੌਹਨ ਮੈਕਨਰੋ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਤ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸੀ। ਕੁਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ, ਉਸਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ 11 ਮੈਚਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਿੰਮੀ ਕੋਨੋਰਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਪੰਜ ਕਰੀਅਰ ਜਿੱਤੇ ਸਨ।

ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤਰਾਜ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਡੇਵਿਸ ਕੱਪ ਟੀਮ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਸੀ ਜੋ 1974 ਅਤੇ 1987 ਵਿੱਚ ਫਾਈਨਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹੁੰਚੀ ਸੀ। ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਕਰੀਅਰ ਦਾ ਸਿੰਗਲਜ਼ ਵਿਨ-ਹਾਰ ਦਾ ਰਿਕਾਰਡ 384-296 ਸੀ, ਉਸਨੇ 16 ਸਿੰਗਲਜ਼ ਅਤੇ 13 ਡਬਲਜ਼ ਖਿਤਾਬ ਜਿੱਤੇ।

ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਸੰਖੇਪ ਅਦਾਕਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਕਰੀਅਰ ਵੀ ਸੀ। ਉਸਦੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਣ ਦਿੱਖ ਸ਼ਾਇਦ 1983 ਵਿੱਚ ਜੇਮਜ਼ ਬਾਂਡ ਫਿਲਮ ਔਕਟੋਪਸਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਐਮਆਈ 6 ਇੰਟੈਲੀਜੈਂਸ ਆਪਰੇਟਿਵ ਵਿਜੇ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ।[11] ਉਹ ਸਟਾਰ ਟ੍ਰੈਕ IV: ਦਿ ਵਯੇਜੇਜ ਹੋਮ (1986) ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਸਟਾਰਸ਼ਿਪ ਕਪਤਾਨ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਸੰਖੇਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋਇਆ।

ਨਿੱਜੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ[ਸੋਧੋ]

ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤਰਾਜ ਪਤਨੀ ਸ਼ਿਆਮਲਾ, ਜੋ ਸ਼੍ਰੀਲੰਕਾ ਦਾ ਤਾਮਿਲ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਬੇਟੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤਰਾਜ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਕਰਮ ਨਾਲ ਕੈਲੀਫੋਰਨੀਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।[12][13][14]

ਉਸ ਦਾ ਬੇਟਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਭਤੀਜਾ ਸਟੀਫਨ ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤਰਾਜ ਪੇਸ਼ੇਵਰ ਟੈਨਿਸ ਖਿਡਾਰੀ ਹਨ। 9 ਫਰਵਰੀ 2001 ਨੂੰ ਵਿਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਲਈ ਸੰਯੁਕਤ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਦੇ ਰਾਜਦੂਤ ਨਿਯੁਕਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਐਚਆਈਵੀ / ਏਡਜ਼ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਦਿਆਂ 'ਤੇ ਜਾਗਰੂਕਤਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਭਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਏਡਜ਼ ਦੇ ਫੈਲਣ ਲਈ ਲੜਨ ਲਈ ਫੰਡ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।[15] ਵਿਜੇ ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤਰਾਜ ਨੇ 2006 ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿ ਵਿਜੇ ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤਰਾਜ ਫਾਊਂਡੇਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ।[16][17]
