ਸੱਜੇ-ਪੱਖੀ ਰਾਜਨੀਤੀ ਉਸ ਵਿਚਾਰਧਾਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਸ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਇਹ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਮਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਰਜਾਬੰਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਸਮਾਨਤਾ ਇੱਕ ਆਮ, ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਛਕ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ।[1][2][3] ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦੀ ਪੁਸ਼ਟੀ ਇਹ ਕਹਿ ਕੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਅਤੇ ਪਰੰਪਰਾਵਾਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਹੈ। ਸਮਾਜ ਦੀ ਦਰਜਾਬੰਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਸਮਾਨਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਨਿਯਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਰਕੀਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਟਾ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।[4][5][6][7][8]

ਰਾਜਨੀਤੀ ਦੇ ਸੰਦਰਭ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੱਬੇ-ਪੱਖੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਜੇ -ਪੱਖੀ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਗ ਫਰਾਂਸੀਸੀ ਇਨਕਲਾਬ (1789–1799) ਦੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਇਆ। ਫ਼ਰਾਂਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਨਕਲਾਬ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਸਟੇਟਸ ਜਨਰਲ (Estates General) ਨਾਮਕ ਸੰਸਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਮਰਾਟ ਨੂੰ ਹਟਾਕੇ ਗਣਤੰਤਰ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਲੋਚਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਮਨਿਰਪੱਖਤਾ ਲੋਚਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਕਸਰ ਖੱਬੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਬੈਠਦੇ ਸਨ। ਜਦਕਿ ਸੱਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਬੈਠਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ਤਰਜ਼ ਦੀ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਦੀ ਤਰਫਦਾਰੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਨ
