ਏਰਿਕਾ ਹੋਫ (ਜਨਮ 1951) ਇੱਕ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਮਨੋਵਿਗਿਆਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਅਤੇ ਦੋਭਾਸ਼ੀਵਾਦ ਦੀ ਮਾਹਰ ਹੈ।[1][2] ਉਹ ਫਲੋਰੀਡਾ ਐਟਲਾਂਟਿਕ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਨੋਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਹੈ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਹ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਗਸ਼ਾਲਾ ਦਾ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਹਾਫ ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਪਾਠ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦਾ ਲੇਖਕ ਹੈ।[3] ਉਸਨੇ ਬਾਲ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੋਜ ਵਿਧੀਆਂ: ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰੈਕਟੀਕਲ ਗਾਈਡ,[4][5] ਬਲੈਕਵੈਲ ਹੈਂਡਬੁੱਕ ਆਫ਼ ਲੈਂਗੂਏਜ ਡਿਵੈਲਪਮੈਂਟ,[6][7] ਅਤੇ ਚਾਈਲਡਹੁੱਡ ਦੋਭਾਸ਼ੀਵਾਦ: ਸਕੂਲ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਚਪਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੋਜ ਸਮੇਤ ਕਈ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਹਿ-ਸੰਪਾਦਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।[8][9]

ਜੀਵਨੀ[ਸੋਧੋ]

ਹੋਫ ਨੇ 1972 ਵਿੱਚ ਮਿਸ਼ੀਗਨ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੈਚਲਰ ਆਫ਼ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਦੀ ਡਿਗਰੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ। ਰਟਗਰਜ਼ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਤੋਂ ਮਾਸਟਰ ਆਫ਼ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਦੀ ਡਿਗਰੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਹੋਫ ਮਿਸ਼ੀਗਨ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਾਪਸ ਆ ਗਈ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਸਨੇ 1981 ਵਿੱਚ ਮਾਰਲਿਨ ਸ਼ੈਟਜ਼ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਰਾਨੀ ਹੇਠ ਮਨੋਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਪੀਐਚਡੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ।[10] ਉਸਦਾ ਖੋਜ-ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਫਾਊਂਡੇਸ਼ਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਫੰਡ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ,[11] ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਈ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦੀ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ 'ਤੇ ਕੇਂਦਰਿਤ ਸੀ।[12] [13] ਫਲੋਰੀਡਾ ਐਟਲਾਂਟਿਕ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੀ ਫੈਕਲਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ, ਹੋਫ ਵਿਸਕਾਨਸਿਨ-ਪਾਰਕਸਾਈਡ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਫੈਕਲਟੀ ਦਾ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਸੀ।

ਹੋਫ ਨੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਸੰਦਰਭਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਦੋਭਾਸ਼ੀਵਾਦ ਅਤੇ ਦੋਹਰੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ 'ਤੇ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਖੋਜ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਇੰਸਟੀਚਿਊਟ ਆਫ਼ ਚਾਈਲਡ ਹੈਲਥ ਐਂਡ ਹਿਊਮਨ ਡਿਵੈਲਪਮੈਂਟ ਤੋਂ ਗ੍ਰਾਂਟਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਫੰਡ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।[14] ਹੋਫ ਦੀ ਖੋਜ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ 'ਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ-ਆਰਥਿਕ ਅਸਮਾਨਤਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣਕ ਕਾਰਕ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।[15] ਖਾਸ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਉਜਾਗਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਤ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦੀ ਗੁਣਵੱਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਰਿਵਰਤਨ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦੇ ਚਾਲ-ਚਲਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਗਤ ਅੰਤਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।[16][17]

ਹੋਫ ਨੇ ਦੱਖਣੀ ਫਲੋਰਿਡਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ-ਭਾਸ਼ਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਦੋ-ਭਾਸ਼ੀ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ 'ਤੇ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਲੰਮੀ ਖੋਜ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਗੱਲ 'ਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਐਕਸਪੋਜਰ ਦੀ ਮਾਤਰਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਦਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਤ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।[18] ਉਸਨੇ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤੀ ਪੜਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ, ਸਪੈਨਿਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਹੁਨਰ ਇੱਕੋ ਸਮੇਂ ਇੱਕ-ਭਾਸ਼ਾਈ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਹੁਨਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਛੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ, ਜਦੋਂ ਦੋ-ਭਾਸ਼ੀ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਦੋਨੋਂ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੁਨਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਇੱਕ-ਭਾਸ਼ਾਈ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਜਾਂ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।[19] ਦੋ-ਭਾਸ਼ੀ ਘਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੋਣਾ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਪੈਨਿਸ਼ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਫ਼ਲਤਾ ਦੀ ਗਾਰੰਟੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੰਦਾ। ਇੱਕ ਸੰਬੰਧਿਤ ਕਾਰਕ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਹੈ। ਜਿਹੜੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਸਪੇਨੀ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਪੈਨਿਸ਼ ਬੋਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਵਨਾ ਘੱਟ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।[20][21]
