ਕੁੱਕੜ ਲਾਲ ਜੰਗਲੀ ਕੁੱਕੜ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਉੱਪ-ਪ੍ਰਜਾਤੀ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਆਮ ਘਰੇਲੂ ਜਨੌਰ ਹੈ। 2003 ਵਿੱਚ 24 ਅਰਬ ਦੀ ਆਬਾਦੀ ਨਾਲ, ਕੁੱਕੜ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਪ੍ਰਜਾਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਹਨ।[1] ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕੁੱਕੜਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਮੀਟ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਡਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਘਰੇਲੂਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਬੂਤ 8,000 ਈ.ਪੂ. ਵਿੱਚ ਉੱਤਰੀ ਚੀਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ।[2] ਮਿਸਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸਨੂੰ 15ਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਈ.ਪੂ. ਦੇ ਮੱਧ ਤੋਂ "ਰੋਜ਼ ਜਨਮ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪੰਛੀ" ਦੇ ਤੌਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
