ਲੌਂਗਕਲੋਥ (ਜਾਂ ਲੰਬਾ ਕੱਪੜਾ) ਇੱਕ ਸਾਦੇ ਸੂਤੀ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਅਸਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਲਨਾਤਮਕ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਲੰਬੇ ਟੁਕੜਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।

ਅੱਜਕੱਲ੍ਹ, ਲੰਬੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਇੱਕ ਸੂਤੀ ਫੈਬਰਿਕ ਨੂੰ ਮਨੋਨੀਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਉੱਚ ਗੁਣਵੱਤਾ ਵਾਲਾ, ਬਹੁਤ ਨਰਮ, ਮੋਟੇ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਬੁਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਅਕਸਰ ਅੰਡਰਵੀਅਰ ਅਤੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।[4][5]

ਘਾਟੀ ਇੱਕ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਚਮਕਦਾਰ ਸਤਹ ਵਾਲਾ ਇੱਕ ਕੱਪੜਾ ਸੀ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਬਣਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਅਤੇ ਤਾਕਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਖਾਸ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਸੂਤੀ ਕੱਪੜਾ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰੀਮੀਅਮ ਕੁਆਲਿਟੀ ਦਾ ਲੰਬਾ ਕੱਪੜਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮਹਿੰਗਾ ਵੀ ਸੀ। ਘਾਟੀ ਸੂਸੀ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਹਲਕਾ (ਬਣਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ) ਸੀ।[6] ਇਹ ਸਮੱਗਰੀ ਸਿਰਫ ਅਮੀਰ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਕਿਫਾਇਤੀ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ''ਘਾਟੀ'' ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਰਾਹੋਂ, ਪੰਜਾਬ, ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਜਲੰਧਰ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਕਸਬਾ, ਇਸ ਕਿਸਮ ਲਈ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਸ਼ਹੂਰ ਸੀ। 19ਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਤੱਕ ਇਸਦਾ ਉਤਪਾਦਨ ਬੰਦ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।[7][8][9]

ਪੈਟਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਵਰਤੋਂ[ਸੋਧੋ]

ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਆਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ, ਘਾਟੀ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਚਾਦਰਾਂ, ਕਮੀਜ਼ਾਂ, ਪਜਾਮੇ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਗਰਖਾ ਲਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਸੀ।[10] ਫਿਰ ਘਾਟੀ ਸਾਦੇ ਚਿੱਟੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਪਲਬਧ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਨਮੂਨਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਡੈਮਸਸੀਨ, ਫੁੱਲਦਾਰ ਅਤੇ ' ਚਸ਼ਮਾ-ਏ-ਬੁਲਬੁਲ ' ਭਾਵ "ਕੋਟੀ ਦੀ ਅੱਖ"[11] ਵਿੱਚ ਉਪਲਬਧ ਸੀ।

ਲਥ੍ਹਾ[ਸੋਧੋ]

ਲੌਂਗਕਲੋਥ ਨੂੰ ਲਥ੍ਹਾ ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ[10][12] ਕਸ਼ਮੀਰੀ ਕਲਾਕਾਰੀ ਲਈ ਲਥਾ ਨੂੰ ਤਰਜੀਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਸੀ, ਭਾਵ, ਰੇਸ਼ਮ ਦੇ ਧਾਗਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਅਮਲੀ ਕੰਮ।[13] ਕੁਝ ਖਾਸ ਪਹਿਰਾਵੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਲਤਾ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਸੀ।[14]

ਪੌਣੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਖੇਤਰ ਤੋਂ ਸੂਤੀ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਮੋਟੀ ਕਿਸਮ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਲੌਂਗਕਲੋਥ ਦੀ ਲੰਬਾਈ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਤਿਹਾਈ ਸੀ।[10]
