ਫਿਜੀਅਨ (ਮਤਲਬ: (ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਦੇ) ਮਾਲਕ) ਇੱਕ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਅਤੇ ਨਸਲੀ ਸਮੂਹ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਫ਼ਿਜੀ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਫ਼ਿਜੀਅਨ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਸਾਂਝਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਫਿਜੀਅਨਜ਼, ਜਾਂ iTaukei,[8] ਫ਼ਿਜੀ ਟਾਪੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਆਦਿਵਾਸੀ ਲੋਕ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਸਨੂੰ ਗੈਰ ਰਸਮੀ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਮੇਲਾਨੇਸ਼ੀਆ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਵਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਫ਼ਿਜੀਅਨਜ਼ ਲਗਭਗ 3,500 ਸਾਲ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਪੱਛਮੀ ਮੇਲਾਨੇਸ਼ੀਆ ਤੋਂ ਫ਼ਿਜੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਏ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਲਾਪਿਤਾ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਤਾਨ ਹਨ। ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਰੋਟੂਮਾ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਪਾਸ ਦੇ ਟਾਪੂਆਂ ਵੱਲ ਅੱਗੇ ਗਏ, ਅਤੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਟੋਂਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਮੋਆ ਵਰਗੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੇੜਲੇ ਟਾਪੂਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਸੇ। ਉਹ ਰੋਟੂਮਾ ਟਾਪੂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਫ਼ਿਜੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਹਿੱਸਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਵਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਹਨ। ਸਥਾਨਕ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਲੱਖਣ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦੇ ਬਰਤਨ ਦੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਮੂਲ ਵਸਨੀਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੁਣ "ਲਾਪਿਤਾ ਲੋਕ" ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ 800 ਬੀ.ਸੀ.ਈ. ਤੋਂ ਲੈਪਿਤਾ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦੇ ਬਰਤਨ ਪਾਏ ਗਏ ਸਨ।
