2010 ਤੋਂ ਸਟੈਂਟਨ ਨੇ ਨਿਊਯਾਰਕ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਆਮ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸੈਂਕੜੇ ਤਸਵੀਰਾਂ ਖਿੱਚੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਜਿਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਕੁਝ ਲਾਈਨਾਂ ਲਿਖਦਾ ਹੈ।[4]

ਸਟੈਂਟਨ ਜਾਰਜੀਆ, ਅਟਲਾਂਟਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਾਰੀਏਟਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੋਇਆ,[5] ਜਿੱਥੇ ਇਸਨੇ 2002 ਵਿੱਚ ਦ ਵਾਕਰ ਸਕੂਲ ਤੋਂ ਸਕੂਲ ਦੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਖਤਮ ਕੀਤੀ।[6] ਇਸਨੇ ਜਾਰਜੀਆ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਤੋਂ ਹਿਸਟਰੀ ਮੇਜਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਿਗਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ।[7] 2010 ਵਿੱਚ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਗੋ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਾਂਡ ਵਪਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਤਾਂ ਇਸਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਕੈਮਰਾ ਖਰੀਦਿਆ,[8] ਅਤੇ ਹਫਤੇ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਉੱਤੇ ਇਸਨੇ ਡਾਊਨਟਾਊਨ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਗੋ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਸਵੀਰਾਂ ਖਿੱਚਣੀਆਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ। ਜਦੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਸਮਾਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਇਸਦੀ ਨੌਕਰੀ ਚਲੀ ਗਈ,[9] ਤਾਂ ਇਸਨੇ ਫੋਟੋਗਰਾਫ਼ੀ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਕਿੱਤਾ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਹ ਨਿਊ ਯਾਰਕ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਨੇ 10,000 ਨਿਊ ਯਾਰਕ ਨਿਵਾਸਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਤਸਵੀਰਾਂ ਖਿੱਚਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਨਕਸ਼ੇ ਉੱਤ ਲਗਾਇਆ। ਆਖ਼ਿਰ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਤਸਵੀਰਾਂ ਹਿਊਮਨਜ਼ ਆਫ ਨਿਊ ਯਾਰਕ ਦੇ ਫੇਸਬੁੱਕ ਪੰਨੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਾਈਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ, ਜੋ ਪੰਨਾ ਇਸਨੇ ਨਵੰਬਰ 2010 ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।[10][11] ਹੌਲੀ-ਹੌਲੀ ਇਸਨੇ ਤਸਵੀਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰਲੇਖ ਦੇਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੂਰੇ ਇੰਟਰਵਿਊਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਦਲ ਗਏ।

ਇਸਦੀ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਹਿਊਮਨਜ਼ ਆਫ ਨਿਊ ਯਾਰਕ (Humans of New York) ਅਕਤੂਬਰ 2013 ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਿਤ ਹੋਈ। ਇਸ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੇ ਰੀਵਿਊ ਮਿਲੇ[12] ਅਤੇ ਇਸਦੀਆਂ 30,000 ਕਾਪੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰੀਆਰਡਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਵਿਕੀਆਂ।[5] ਇਸ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਅਰਪਣ ਵੇਲੇ ਏਬੀਸੀ ਨਿਊਜ਼ ਨਾਈਟਲਾਈਨ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਬਿੱਲ ਵੇਰ ਨੇ ਇਸਦਾ ਇੰਟਰਵਿਊ ਲਿਆ[13] ਇਹ ਕਿਤਾਬ 2013 ਦੇ 3 ਨਵੰਬਰ ਤੋਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਫਤੇ ਲਈ ਨਿਊ ਯਾਰਕ ਟਾਈਮਜ਼ ਨੌਨ-ਫਿਕਸ਼ਨ ਬੈਸਟ ਸੈਲਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਨੰਬਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਗਈ।[14][15] ਇਹ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਇਸ ਸੂਚੀ ਵਿੱਚ 26 ਹਫਤਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਰਹੀ ਅਤੇ 21 ਦਸੰਬਰ 2014 ਨੂੰ ਫਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਨੰਬਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚੀ।

5 ਫਰਵਰੀ 2015 ਨੂੰ ਵਾਈਟ ਹਾਊਸ ਵਿਖੇ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ ਓਬਾਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਗਿਆ ਬਰੈਂਡਨ ਸਟੈਂਟਨ।

ਦਸੰਬਰ 2013 ਵਿੱਚ ਸਟੈਂਟਨ ਨੂੰ ਟਾਈਮ (ਪਤ੍ਰਿਕਾ) ਨੇ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਨੂੰ ਬਦਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ 30 ਸਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਘੱਟ 30 ਵਿਅਕਤੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੂਚੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਕੀਤਾ।[16] ਅਗਸਤ 2014 ਵਿੱਚ ਸਟੈਂਟਨ ਮੱਧ ਪੂਰਬ ਵੱਲ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਯੁਕਤ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਦੇ ਸਦਕਾ ਇਸਨੇ 50 ਦਿਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਟੂਰ ਦੌਰਾਨ 10 ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਤਸਵੀਰਾਂ ਖਿੱਚੀਆਂ।[17][18] ਜੁਲਾਈ 2015 ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ ਕੰਮ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜੀ ਵਾਰ ਇਰਾਨ ਗਿਆ।[19][20] ਆਪਣੇ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਟੂਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਟੈਂਟਨ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ 23 ਲੱਖ ਡਾਲਰ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਤਾਂਕਿ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਲਾਮ ਮਜ਼ਦੂਰੀ ਬੰਦ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ।[21]

ਜਨਵਰੀ 2015 ਵਿੱਚ ਸਟੈਂਟਨ ਨੂੰ ਓਵਲ ਆਫਿਸ ਵਿਖੇ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਤਾਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ ਬਰਾਕ ਓਬਾਮਾ ਦੀ ਇੰਟਰਵਿਊ ਲੈ ਸਕੇ।
