ਇਸਤਾਂਬੁਲ ਤੁਰਕੀ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਰਾਜਧਾਨੀ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਇਕਲੌਤਾ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਦੋ ਮਹਾਂਦੀਪ (ਏਸ਼ੀਆ ਅਤੇ ਯੂਰਪ) ਉੱਤੇ ਵਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਯੂਰਪ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਹੈ।

ਇਸ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ 660 ਈ.ਪੂ. ਵਿੱਚ "ਬੇਜ਼ਨਟੀਅਮ" ਨਾਂ ਹੇਠ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ। 330 ਈਸਵੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸਦੀ ਮੁੜ-ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਇਹ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਰੋਮਨ, ਬੇਜ਼ਨਟਾਇਨ, ਲਾਤੀਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਮਾਨੀ ਸਾਮਰਾਜਾਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ 16 ਸਦੀਆਂ ਤੱਕ ਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਰਾਜਧਾਨੀ ਰਿਹਾ।[5]

2015 ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸਤਾਂਬੁਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਗਭਗ 1.2 ਕਰੋੜ ਸੈਲਾਨੀ ਆਏ ਸਨ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ 5ਵਾਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਯਾਤਰੀ ਆਕਰਸ਼ਣ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਬਣਿਆ ਸੀ।[6]

ਇਤਿਹਾਸ[ਸੋਧੋ]

21ਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਪੁਰਾਤਤਵੀ ਖੋਜਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਇਸਤਾਂਬੁਲ ਦਾ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਪਰਾਇਦੀਪ ਲਗਭਗ 7000 ਸਾਲ ਈ.ਪੂ. ਤੋਂ ਅਬਾਦ ਹੈ।[7] ਮੁੱਢਲੇ ਨਵੀਨ ਪੱਥਰ ਯੁੱਗ ਦੇ ਵਾਸੀ ਇਸ ਥਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਲਗਭਗ 1000 ਸਾਲ ਰਹੇ ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਵਧਦੇ ਪੱਧਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਇਹ ਥਾਂ ਤਹਿਸ-ਨਹਿਸ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਸੀ।[8][9][10][11] ਇਸਦੇ ਏਸ਼ੀਆਈ ਹਿੱਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਬਸਤੀ ਤਾਂਬਾ ਯੁੱਗ ਤੋਂ ਹੈ ਜਿਸਦੀਆਂ ਕਲਾ-ਕਰਿਤੀਆਂ 5500 ਤੋਂ 3500 ਈ.ਪੂ. ਪੁਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਹਨ।[12]
