ਪਟਨਾ /ˈpʌtnə/ (ਉੱਚਾਰਨ^ⓘ) ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ਬਿਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਜਧਾਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪੁਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਅਬਾਦ ਥਾਂਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ।^[3] ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਪਟਨਾ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਟਲੀਪੁੱਤਰ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ, ਹਰਿਅੰਕ, ਨੰਦ, ਮੌਰਿਆ, ਸੁੰਗ, ਗੁਪਤ, ਪਾਲਾ ਰਾਜ ਹੇਠ ਮਗਧ ਸਾਮਰਾਜ ਦੀ ਰਾਜਧਾਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਲਾਮੀ ਰਾਜ ਹੇਠ ਸੂਰੀ ਘਰਾਣੇ ਦੀ ਰਾਜਧਾਨੀ ਸੀ।

ਇਸ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਸਵੇਂ ਅਤੇ ਆਖ਼ਰੀ ਦੇਹਧਾਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ, ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਥੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੰਜ ਤਖ਼ਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਸਥਿਤ ਹੈ।^[4]
