ਬੰਗਲੌਰ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੈਂਗਲੁਰੂ [[:Media:Bengaluru-Kannada-Pronunciation.ogg|['beŋgəɭuːɾu]]]  ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਨਾਟਕਾ ਦੀ ਰਾਜਧਾਨੀ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਦੱਖਣ-ਪੂਰਬੀ ਹਿੱਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੱਖਣੀ (ਡੈਕਨ) ਪਠਾਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਥਿਤ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਦਾ ਤੀਜਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਵਾਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਬਹੁ-ਨਗਰੀ ਇਲਾਕਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਭਾਰਤ ਦਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ-ਪ੍ਰਮੰਨਿਆ ਸੂਚਨਾ ਤਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ 10 ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਤਰਜੀਹ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਉੱਦਮੀ ਟਿਕਾਣਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ।[6] ਇੱਕ ਵਿਕਾਸਸ਼ੀਲ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਵਧਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਹਾਂਨਗਰੀ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਤੌਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੰਗਲੌਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਪ੍ਰਦੂਸ਼ਣ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਮਾਜਕ ਅਤੇ ਆਰਥਕ ਸਮੱਸਿਆਵਾਂ ਹਨ।[7][8]

ਸ਼ਬਦਾਵਲੀ[ਸੋਧੋ]

"ਬੰਗਲੌਰ" ਨਾਮ ਕੰਨੜ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਅਸਲ ਨਾਮ, "ਬੰਗਾਲਰੂ" ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਐਂਗਲੀਕੇਸਡ ਸੰਸਕਰਣ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਅੱਜ ਬੰਗਲੌਰ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਕੋਡੀਗੇਹੱਲੀ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਇੱਕ ਪਿੰਡ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਦੀ ਨੀਂਹ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ, ਕੈਂਪੇਗੌਡਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਬੰਗਲੌਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦਾ ਨਾਮਕਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ। "ਬੰਗਾਲਾਰੂ" ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਹਵਾਲਾ ਨੌਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਦੇ ਪੱਛਮੀ ਗੰਗਾ ਰਾਜਵੰਸ਼ ਦੇ ਪੱਥਰ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਿਲਾਲੇਖ ਵਿੱਚ "ਵੀਰਾ ਗੱਲੂ" (rally) (ਸ਼ਾਬਦਿਕ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ, "ਹੀਰੋ ਪੱਥਰ", ਇੱਕ ਚੱਟਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਸੀ, ਜੋ ਇੱਕ ਯੋਧਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਗੁਣਗਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ) ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੀ। ਬੇਗੂਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਇਸ ਸ਼ਿਲਾਲੇਖ ਵਿਚ, "ਬੰਗਾਲਾਰੀ" ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਕਿਹਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ 890 ਸਾ.ਯੁ. ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਲੜਾਈ ਲੜੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ।ਇਹ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸਥਾਨ 1004 ਤੱਕ ਗੰਗਾ ਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਹਲੇਗਾਨਾਡਾ (ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਕੰਨੜ) ਵਿੱਚ "ਬੇਂਗਾਵਾਲ-ਉਰੂ", "ਗਾਰਡਜ਼ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ" ਵਜੋਂ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ।
